Hey Y'all,

Just wondering if anybody else likes to four wheel? Here is a recent shot of me and the rig and another shot of my little boy, Christopher James. (but we call him CJ ;)

I do when I can. Mostly in Colorado when on vacation. Is that a JNT or LSJC sticker I see on there?

Unless he did a swap, my guess would be either a 4.2 inline 6 or an 8 cylinder.

    Couple different affiliations:
Southern High Rollers (local Houston club of which I am WebDude & Secretary)
Jeeperz (internet board where I've met some awesome people) We have a group that meets up in Moab every spring.
Texas Motorized Trails Coalition - non profit statewide org fighting to get us more wheeling land.

Colorado is sweet - of course I live in a swamp (Houston) by comparison.

Sorry, I run a multi-point fuel injected Chevy 350 with a 700R4 tranny and a four speed transfer case.
I pull this with my Dodge Diesel

I'm about to go in with new axles that have a 5.38 ratio. With the four speed transfer case I'm at around 185:1 final in 'stupid' low.

I'm just in AWE of that. Do you EVER need to go that low? What's the final drive ratio going to be with the new gearing in the diff's?

That will be with the new axles...currently at about 155:1 and YES I do use it quite often. I don't claim to be the worlds best driver, and sometimes we get ourselves into nasty situations climbing rocks. With the automatic and stupid low, nothing happens quickly. Everything is nice a deliberate until those tires find enough friction to over come the gravity/weight thing. :D

The other style of course is to mash peddle and use wheel spin to get you up. There are times that is needed, (which is why I have the four speed that lets me spin them pretty fast in top gear) but I much prefer the slow crawl. Plus it makes it easy to jump out - take a quick leak - and jump back in before it's driven too far away.

Where's your 5 point harness? I never went off road without being fully strapped in.

Got four point. (don't like that one between the legs) I usually drop my arms out of the shoulder straps to be able to lean out and see. I throw them all the way on when it warrents.

Unfortunately, this is as dirty as mine's ever gotten. However, once I get another car to replace it as a DD, I plan on lifting it. Well, I plan on doing SOMEthing to it. I may decide it's too great a specimen of a dying breed and buy something a little more used to lift.

That is a bit pristine to go bash around in the woods. But the XJ makes a great trail rig with that nice wheelbase. I have also been over on both sides, but never lid. (knocking loudly on all wood I can find)

I imagine the Wrangler would fare better on a roll than an XJ would. Every time I see a XJ rollover the top's all caved in and the only option really is to just cut the top off.

that low gear ration is well warranted since it looks like you love the rock crawlin. I off roaded with my Cherokee back inthe day, but nothing too nuts. I did a little rock action with a rented jeep wrangler in aruba and had a blast, and you bet I was in 4 low ALOT over the rocks.

Looks like a sweet rig you got there, truly bad %ss
