ADCOM GFP-750 For $700.00 is there a better 2 channel pre available and if so what might it be? Also If anyone has had this unit and would care to share there oppinions on it please do so.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

I believe thats the little MOS FET beauty that Nelson Pass designed for ADCOM.It is has a very simple gain path (using discrete transistors instead of IC op amps) and it is supposed to be a very good sounding pre, which is not surprising considering the designer.

Thanks GV. I am currently trying to put together the best 2 channel rig that I can afford and this pre is on top of my list so far in the $700.00 - $1000.00 range.

I think I have the amp I need for this and the speakers. Now its a matter of a decent 2 channel pre and a dac. I have pretty much decided to get the TADAC that pearsall had gotten for $899.00

I got some pretty decent interconnects and speaker cable from the fine folks here allready. Thanks go out to those that have sold to me these items.

Later on I will concentrate on a better SACD/CD player than what I currently have.

Stellar pre that can be run in passive or active mode. Just as GV states NP design simple gain path all discrete top quality parts a very nice pre at twice the $700 used price. No phono section.

Thanks H9 for the input it is appreciated.

I currently have my amp in the shop getting a few thing done to it, all six main capacitors are being replaced with higher voltage rating ones. 100 volt versus 75 volts since the rail voltage is running at 79 volts and the 2 small cheap coupling caps are being replaced with high quality mylar caps, the power cord is being replaced with a better quality one.

So I have a little time to buy a few items before its ready and like Cathy says do it right the first time, and there is a vast wealth of knowledge here and I want to get the best I can for what I can afford.
