The Vampire lost his 'fang', I can't decide if I can fix it, or will I just jack it up more.

Got the fang fixed with some pumpkin scraps and a toothpick.

Joe, just post them. I'm actually a little disappointed we didn't do any freehand old school pump's this year. It's not so much a contest, lets just see what everyone did!

    Cheers,

Here's my entry... kind of a kit/freehand attempt, in that I used part of a carving kit as a reference, but didn't actually trace the pattern.

It looks awesome at night with the bright red LED inside, though!
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

    Nothing. It's too boring.

Also, if you're using any kind of stencil kit, that's cheating.

RUSS, my kids got that same package of trace-n-cut outs but we decided to just let them draw their own and cut because the pumpkins were a wee bit on the tiny side. yours look very nice.

Funny thing is Russ got the same response this year as he did last year right off the bat. I will post up some pics later of previous years since I didn't find this place until last December. We usually host a pumpkin carving contest at our house and then have a neighbor come over and judge. This is the first year we haven't done it in about five years due to the fact we all have kids one year or younger.

Bring it. These two are mine and the line up is from everyone that was there that evening. In the lineup picture check out the wall behind the third pumpkin from the left.

Great stuff guys! Some are simply amazing!

Here is my daughter Shannon's work. She's only 10, used a kit for the outline, punched the holes, adult cleaned and cut. Here are some pictures of her and her work:

While a lot of people go for the "trick" art pumpkins, I've always tried to refine the traditional pumpkin carver's art. I wish I had a photo of the 55-pounder I did a few years back, but this one's pretty much the same other than size.

Nothing fancy, but it looks good on the porch and is pretty clean. Only knives with straight heavy blades were used other than a narrow veggie knife for the roughing of the curved mouth outline. Small oil lamp for illumination. The nose is smaller in person--I shot the photo close up with a wide angle.

Nice "classic" pumpkin John in MA! All of those other pumpkins just arent what I would imagine the Headless Horseman having as his head! A Jack-o-lantern ought to be scary! Just imagine the Pooh pumpkin on top of the Headless Horseman! Its a Pooh-o-lantern! :) It just doesnt work! :)
I do admire the art and patience of the folks carving the pumpkins with such care and detail. Im not so good at it and I guess thats why mine always were simple and traditional pumpkins.
