Took out the Pioneer HT receiver and put an Adcom GFA 555II into the basement system yesterday. I stripped out the surround channels and have forgot about getting a center channel to match the Monitor 7B's.

Now I know about the importance of the preamp, I heard an improvement when said Pioneer was replaced by an Outlaw in the main rig. But I have to say this Adcom has opened up the bottleneck in this system. The Monitor 7B's are incedibly present and easily fill the room. It's time to read in the often used analogy of lifting a veil off the speakers.

It is also nice to have finally decided on going with a straight-forward 2-channel system. It was almost theraputic pulling all those additional cables out from behind the stand. Simple, powerful and dynamic as all get out. I love it! :D

That is exactly why I'm still a hardcore 2-ch guy. With SDA's in the mix I don't need 3.1 more speakers and the processing that goes with it.

I'm with you Jonesy and H9. Even being a rep for some great home A/V lines, my HT system is meager at best. But, later this year, I am tearing down the big entertainment center wall I built a few years back, selling my 56" Panasonic RPTV and getting a 50"+ plasma. I'll have a separate HT system with inwall front LCR speakers and I already have the 4 back in ceiling speakers there. But, I'll have the separately controlled 2-channel rig. It's just that time. I want to have the ability to listen to the SRS II's (plus other speakers I have) in the living room. More space to open up the staging.

Here is what the wall look like from the kitchen view. Oh, the cow **** is gone BTW. That was the ex's stuff. :D

This is why I have 2 separate systems. Except for SACD's, I only listen to music on the 2ch rig.

I have put all of my money into 2channel. I almost thought of just buying a cheap HTIB for movies... but movies sound great over two channel... don't need a center when two speakers image well.

Ain't that the truth. The center image was always there but became solidified, along with the whole soundstage expanding, once the Adcom came to the party.
