New project MidFi computer speakers

I have been toying with the idea of building some computer speakers with some full range tang bad drivers. They get great ratings, and would probably very good sounding. My friend, and I have been thinking of building some self powered speakers that would use a toroidal power supply, and put out about 15 watts per channel very clean. Has anyone tried the tang band 4's on their own with no tweeter?
Thanks Ben

I just got a pair of the 4" ribbed cone Tang Bands with neodymium magnets. Haven't had a chance to even listen to them in free space yet, but the word on them is good.

EDIT: You might want to consult the forums and look around at www.fullrangedriver.com for ideas.
If you could find a pair, the long-ago "69 cent special" 4" FR drivers (branded Pioneer) sold by PartsExpress are excellent sounding fullrange speakers. Last time I looked, Madisound still sells an apparently identical speaker, branded Onkyo, but for somewhat more $ (still cheap, though).

I have to know how they sound. That was my first choice on drivers. Then I saw some 3's for $9 each on clearance. I am trying to get something going that makes me emotional when I listen to AK, or DK on my computer. My friend, and I hooked up a bookshelf to my Altec Lansing 5.1 to borrow an amplified signal, and it sounded real good. All my stuff is in storage right now, and I have not been able to get my ears on.

A full or 'extended' range driver isn't going to bring out any emotions, not for me. Feel free to use the TB drivers - I like them alot - but they need a tweeter properly implemented to be any sort of listenable.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.

Thanks Russ I was trying to avoid a tweeter, and I never did the full range thing. The Specs are very impressive, but paper does not show SQ.

Someone did a 2 way design with the 1052sd. Might give you some more background info?

Sweet link. What I was originally proposing in a 2 way. Big plus he dig the XO for me!!! The cabs would be taller, and narrower in mine;)

You could try a pair of these. All you would need is an enclosure for them and you would have full-range sound! Plus they do look pretty cool, if I do say so my self.

You want an emotional driver? It's a little big for a 'puter but this will do the trick (without breaking the bank)
That's a Fostex FE-207E in a 1 ft^3 ported box. Cat is optional.
