Hello.

I am currently in the planning stages of my garage/ workshop/ saloon and have come across a possible problem. I am not planning on heating the room full time and was wondering if it will be a problem with my speakers. Is cold weather a problem? Now that I think of it I assume it probably would be. I just want to run a pair of bookshevles. What do you think. Also I am guesing that a tv would also be a problem turning on cold. So what do you all think.

I hate the thought of heating it full time.:o

Well, whatever you do, don't put 'em next to the fireplace. I got a lesson on that one here this week! :D

You should be fine. If not, I will donate an excellent set of speakers to replace what you have - we can both give them a listen as we belly up to the saloon....

Edit - as a matter of fact, If you want I will donate a rough, but beyond garage worthy, pair of SDA-1b's (interconnect and all). You will have the best sounding saloon in town. All I ask is a discount on drinks... :)

The radio and DVD player work fine in my car reguardless of how cold it is when I turn it on. I would not expect there to be any issues. If you brought them suddenly into a warm environment so condensation could form and then turned it on, you could have issues. Running them while warming the garage is fine - just dont bring them inside while the garage is warming up...

This is all based on anecdotal evidence, but I don't think you will have a problem. I know polk does some extensive environmental testing on thier speakers, I would not expect them to have any issues at all.

I run zone 3 off my pre-amp and amp to the garage, so I wasn't worried about the equipment, it's nice and cozy in the house. I was worried about the effect on the speakers and sub going from 10 deg. to 70 deg. and possible condensation when I heat the garage. So I chose speakers that do not have real wood cabinets, have rubber surrounds, and no paper cones. I'm thinking they will last a long time in that environment.
