You guys keep using the term, "fanboy." Sounds like another useless word to me. If you like a product and tell others about it, does that make you a "fanboy?"

Please define.
HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50” LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

"God grooves with tubes."

My idea of fanboy is someone who likes a product because: 1) they like the sound of the name, 2) they like the flashy lights on the product, 3) everyone has them, 4) they're the most expensive, 5) etc. NOT for what the product is and what it does.

    That's the idea I get.

Liking a product isnt enough for a fanboy....you only make fanboy when you enter a conversation/thread saying your product is better then theirs when proven facts say its not true. Thats when you enter the realm of the fanboy.....loyalty over reality

MY impression of a fanboy is someone who unrelentlessly pushes a certain product. You see it on video game forums a lot, a person asks a question about a PS3 game and someone chimes in with "PS3 sucks, Xbox rules" and vice versa. They never really answer questions, they only recite their chant for their product of choice.

I would consider someone also a fanboy who recommends a certain product to someone no matter what their question. Like someone wants a low powered tube amp for some hi-eff speakers and the person recommends a 300wpc behemoth amp. Many times they have not tried other products because they know theirs is the best.

Exactly....even if something newer/better comes along...theirs is still the best...no matter what. Or even when there is a whisper about their brand coming out with a new product....even before beta testing is complete at the factory....it might not even see the light of day....but it still smokes your product :)

I would define a fanboy as someone that likes a product to the exclusion of all others, not even understanding why anyone would want anything else.

There is also a certain degree of "anyone that agrees with me is my friend, and anyone that challenges any of my beliefs is my enemy" but that is more general...
    Mains.............Polk LSi15 (Cherry)
    Center............Polk LSiC (Crossover upgraded)
Surrounds.......Polk LSi7 (Gloss Black - wood sides removed and crossovers upgraded)
    Subwoofers.....SVS 25-31 CS+ and PC+ (both 20hz tune)
    Pre\Pro...........NAD T163 (Modded with LM4562 opamps)
    Amplifier.........Cinepro 3k6 (6-channel, 500wpc@4ohms)

The best place to find fanboys is in the car enthusiast world. Say the old Domestic vs import debate that battle lines are fought over on a million threads... to the point you think the country would be in civil war. The best definition of a fanboy is a person has the opinion "I own the product and it’s the best thing out there"..

aka "I own a Geo Metro and it’s the best car made period at all and every aspects that make a car a car".

I don’t see it all that much in the AV would except of course the BR vs HD-DVD world where people have just too much time on their hands to be sitting around all day posting crazy crap like the world is going to end if their format they bought loses.

TO me a fanboy is someone who defends aa manufacturer no matter what. Nothing wrong with being a fan of something, be it a company or a specific product; when you become a fanboy, you just relentlessly will defend that product even if it turns out to burst into flames and kill babies.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

A fanboy is what someone calls another person when they can't combat the argument.

    Example:

Bob) Product XYZ uses one of the best deinterlacing chipset on the market and in everthing I've seen nothing else compares.

Bill) You're just a fanboy for Product XYZ

You got that right! The guys at head-fi throw that one out every
other post. There is nothing wrong with a bit of brand loyalty.
As long as it's not rabid, I can't see myself ever using that stupid phrase.

I agree Bobman. I was just over @ Audioholics. Someone came on & asked why there were 4 reviews for Emotiva products to 2 of everyone elses. Is there some sort of bias towards Emotiva. Well needless to say the question didn't go over very well.

The poor guy just got dumped on. Everything from "they only review what the companies send them." (of course since Emotiva is advertised there has nothing to do with it.) To why do you care, are you a spy from another company?:D

The forum members over there will suggest Emotiva almost to the exclusion of all other brands.

Fanboys? There are some more than others but we all have audio prejudice in some way, shape or form.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
