I got to rearranging the audio components today. I noticed the monitor output on the back of my sony str-da5es receiver. What is this for? Is it for an on screen display? Does it offer any advantage to hooking up the receiver throught the outher outputs? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    janmike,
I have the manual. It doesn't really go into any detail on this hookup except how to do it. My question is are there any advantages to hooking it up this way either visually or sonically? Or any other advantages at all? Just wondering if it is better to hook it up through the monitor output than the other outputs.

I am not 100% what that is for but since it is an output you may be able to direct the programming screens to the TV or other monitor device. On my Proceed Pre I can do that and then take it to the input on the monitor.

Yep. That's how mine works, too. I use S-video.

Not sure how it works for newer receivers with HDMI. It may not be necessary.

It looks multi channel capable for audio and video. My Marantz has that feature, and I use the second channel A/V for a second room with a shared wall.
