Almarro Tube Integrated Amplifier MkII(SEP) - 9/10 - Grey - *SOLD* to Magnetic Fields
The unit looks more off-white than grey, but who am I? This is not the old style, it's the two input, headphone output model.
I recently had this and the Onix SP3 in my rig and while they are certainly different physically and sonically, this was more fun. I say that because of a couple things. I really like simplicity in tube designs and the Almarro is all point to point vs PCB based. The tube compliment also trumped the Onix.
This is a Single Ended Pentode(SEP) design. It uses NOS Russian EL84(Branded 6P14EB) which means they are late 70's, early 80's vintage, not untraceable, later Russian, branded EL84. Sonically they are night and day and these are the winners. The stock, front end driver tube is a 12AX7 Sovtek, which isn't altogether that awesome but predictable and reliable. That being said....I'm including a Fisher branded(1960's), Telefunken(Diamond Bottom) smooth plate from my personal stash. You can immediately roll and have some fun.
In addition to that, I'm including 3 tube dampers for the 12AX7, in three(3) sizes. You can do what you want with them but I prefer damping on my driver tubes. It has a low power output so it should be used with a higher efficiency loudspeaker....think 92db or better. It would turn a Klipsch speaker into a concert but eat itself on a Magnepan. These are 100% class A watts so don't discount them as too low and get ready for a space heater.
The chassis has had some Dynamat added but is overall, pretty thick, rigid and dead. Here are some spec's....

Anyone need an IA for a small rig, den, office or otherwise? The tubes alone are stellar, let alone the sweet point-to-point wiring.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Any thoughts on this paired w/ the yellow Ushers for nearfield listening (<1m). Thinking about an office rig, but it'll depend on the bonus I get.Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19

Near-field will knock your socks off. It's only a 4" driver so it's not hard to drive.

Thanks for letting me know... I think my Fostex fullrange's are about to get banned from my house, so I might just use those in the office.
