Preamp question

Let me see if this comes out right.
I'm wondering is there a preamp that will allow me to use 2 amps, for example the bk ref5 S2 has to sets of outputs one balenced the other unbalenced but you arent supposed to use both either or. I'm planning on getting to sets of bookshelves, would it better to use an intamp for power one and the preout section for an external amp instead?

just use a y cables, or get a pre with dual outputs
-
Do you know any solid preamps with dual outputs under $800.? The bk caught my attention because it has tuner+balenced outputs and bass control. Not sure if the anthem tlp has.Chicomorales:)

A Carver C-1 is a good solid pre that has outputs for two amps. It also has a great TT section with settings for both MM & MC cartridges. You should be able to get one for less than $150. I've got two and have had no issues with either one. It also has Carver's sonic holography circuit. Some like it, some don't. I'm one that does as it really expands the soundstage. With all circuits and the tone section off, it's a very neutral pre. It only has RCA IC posts, so if you demand balanced IC's, it's not the one you want.

Chico,
There are quite a few pre's with dual outputs, but they are not needed, you can just use y-cables. Now when you mention that you want a solid pre...are you meaning solid state or just strong performing.
If you are not limiting yourself to solid state, then you should look for an Anthem Pre1, Pre1L or Pre2L. All have dual outputs and all can be had for under $600 used if you can find them. If you are using digital only sources, you can buy a brand new TADAC for $899.00 with volume control and it can be ordered with 2 outputs. It comes with 2 digital inputs. I also think the Dodd ELP has dual outputs...but as mentioned above, let sonics guide your decision because a decent set of Y-Cables will only cost you about $30 to $50 and will still allow you to run 2 Amps.

I don't mean to hijack this thread or anything, but along the same lines as Chcio's original question, can someone tell me if there are many pre-amps out there with two sets of balanced outputs?

No problem blakeh good question.
Dkg i saw the parasound 2125 and 2250. Both have 2 sets of speakers connectors. But i was kinda leaning toward the halo line better quality i was told and well sweeter looks .
But that is also an idea. Ideally though guys i'm looking for new preamp suggustions.
Oh the Adcom gtp=602 has 3 stereo outputs just came acroos it? Not sure how it compares to the Anthem or the BKChicomorales:) -
Odyssey preamps also have 2 sets of outputs if the owner requested them..
Just a FWIW- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
IMHO I would rate the Anthem and B&K pre's over the Adcom. I'm not a big fan of Adcom pre's. The Halo amps are definetely very nice sounding. Very smooth. I think the older HCA-1500 is the best of the non-Halo Parasound line.DKG999

The only reason the Adcom caught my attention was since i'm watching my limited space, i'd rather get a preamp with a tuner, hence the TLP and Ref5 S2 came up.Chicomorales:) -

Tempest - for 500 all day!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Are you serious? It says its for $1,125 so i'm a bit confused? Thats not a bad price the only thing is then i'll need a tuner. I was hoping to put simple 2channel setup together with new equipment for $1500...then it went up to 2k now well i'm prob going 2 have to spend 3k but at the end of the day when i'm broke at least i'll be happy.

Did somebody say knobs?~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~

BIG knobs at that!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

OoooooooOoooh, I like the way that sounds. I love knobs.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~

Tom you need to pick up a Tempest
It will blow your mind, and only for 500 some odd bucks --- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
These RF200's were hand made by Hafler when Rockford Fosgate bought them out in 1989...they are really nice sounding preamps....inside they are beautiful...nice toroidal coil...all high end discrete components inside.
The best part is it has 3 preamp outs....Main....Low...and a High out. Its built in active crossover for the Low/High outs is user adjustable.
They are fairly rare, but would fit your needs perfectly because the output you send to the smaller bookshelf speakers could be the High preamp output set for say 30Hz and above...removing the extreme low bass to them. The first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club -

Well the tempest suggustion is definately worth looking into. Can anyone else suggust a preamp/tuner besides the Anthem TLP and the BK ref5 S2?
Or for another 'crazy' idea as a second option... I know people rave about doubling Rega or Arcam intamps as preamps. Are their any other affordable intamps with a good preamp section under lets say $600?Chicomorales:) -
Used NAD monitor audio 1600? This is a tuner pre with two outs I think... or the modern c162, which has everything and a few other things but the tuner.

Anyone hear know of Vincent Audio?
http://avguide.com/products/product-3958/
not a sterling review on it and no remoteChicomorales:) -
What can you guys tell me about Vincent Audio components? Are the worth looking into. All i've found about them is that they are german.....how do they compare lets say with BK? Also does anyone know about the tuner on the bk ref5 s2 someone was telling me that its a bit weak, would a a separate tuner from tangent be better? i cant afford a magnum tuner just yetChicomorales:)
-
Adcom makes excellent preamps with all the features your looking for!!!
-
Thank for the suggustion, but i'd rather get a bk over the Adcom option. In fact i think i might just settle for my initial idea of the outlaw 2150Chicomorales:)
