Subwoofer Clearance

I'm looking at buying a PSW404 10" front facing sub and putting it in a cabinet where it will only have about 3/4 inches of clearance on each side. The front of the cabinet is acoustically transparent cloth.
Does anyone see a problem with this tight fit on the sides?
Thanks.

    Nope.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

It'll sound like a fat man grunting while dropping a long, hard one.

Remember subs don't always sound best where we would like to place them.
You have any way try one in that location before buying, if your unsure?

It's certainly not ideal but he's asking about clearance, not sound.

No, actually I'm interested in any limitations of the sound.

All speakers need room to "speak." If you cram any speaker into a nook, you can expect less than desireable outcomes. For subs, expect them to be quite boomy and localizable. Music Joe has a good point about location, as well.

Short answer -- don't do it.

I didn't notice that in the original question but it's not ideal. It will be boomy and heavy on certain frequencies if placed within a cabinet. If you want to do it, get something like the Behringer Feedback Destroyer and calibrate your HT. There are many threads on this issue, just do a search.

What other speakers are you using? The higher the crossover frequency, the worse it will sound.

I'll test it out where I'm buying the cabinet. They have a lof of demo stuff. Thanks for the suggestion.

Maybe the DSW Pro with the forward firing setup is the way to go instead for placing inside a cabinet?

The new DSW subwoofer series is much better than the previous models, but you seem to be in the same boat no? You stated that it was to be placed in a cabinet, then it was an option and performance was a factor.

What are you looking for exactly?

Is the opening of the cabinet facing the seating position? If not, it will definitely sound like crap due to the high crossover frequency.

The opening faces the seating area.

I'm not trying to be confusing.
The TV console (33" high) would have the TV on top and the sub would be in the middle section facing the seating area. The sub would have about 3/4 inch clearance on each side of the middle portion of the console. I would move the sub to the very front of the console, as close to the seating area as possible.
The room is fairly small 12' x 15'.
I brought up the DSW 400 because it has a setting for "in cabinet".
Maybe I should have explained more of this from the beginning.
    I do appreciate your help.

Let me reiterate what we're suggesting you to do poetically --

It doesn't matter what sub you get --
It's gonna sound like a piece of ****.
If you wanna be legit --
    Don't put a sub in a cabinet.

OK, so maybe my rap needs a little work...

Find another option, dude. Put the sub in a corner where it belongs. There should be at least four of them in your room. Pick one.
