I'm all into weight savings these days since I've been playing with my little scion xb. Anyone know of any particular amps or speakers which weigh almost nothing? I got a nice little infinity digial amp which is 11 lbs and a sub I made out of carboard tube but I'm still looking for the lightest weight stuff I can find...

I'd recommend an Infinity digital amp, but you have one already.

    How about an iPod?

Most car amps are pretty lightweight from the get go. Maybe 10 pounds max for a modest size amp. As long as youre not wanting 1000+ watts, you wont have a problem with weight.

I originally wanted more of a performance car as well... but then I thought to myself... the only time that would really be useful is if decide to throw it on a track. 400-500whp is a lot for a daily car, even if it weighs 150 or 200 pounds more. Its not worth it to sacrifice good sound quality, especially if you love music as much as I do. Plus if I go to a track, I can take everything out for the day. that'll probably only happen once, though.

I'm in a different boat here. I have 103 available HP. The car used to weigh 2400 pounds. It is now about 2000 pounds after lightening everything and performs quite nicely. (Like not carrying around two extra fat guys all the time :D).

What I'm saying is that every half pound here and there is VERY important to me but I still need entertainment.

Well I reckon the answer is, as far as I know, no. Nobody makes specific light weight amps. I guess you could always buy a scale and hit the local car audio shops. ;)

I say don't worry about it if you're using it as your daily driver. adding a mid size amp or two won't throw on a remarkable amount of weight. I'm not at those power levels yet, I'm roughly 3 hp higher than you, but hopefully I'll be meeting my goal sometime not too long from now.

How did you lose 400lbs if you don't mind me asking? Did you remove components like the ac or replace heavier components with lighter ones like lower control arms?

Removed a bunch of stuff. Rear seating/belts/bolts etc, replace front seats with 15 pound racing seats, CF hood, removed a bunch of accessory type storage boxes, no spare tire/jack/lug wrench, removed rear wiper assembly, super light wheels, rear door covering. Then I got serious, removed the ash tray/lighter, used light weight lug nuts, cleaned out useless stuff like owners manuals, removed badges, keep tank half full, removed tow tie downs, lighter shocks/coil overs (not in yet) and a bunch of other small things. It all adds up. I have a little scales where I weigh everything going on and coming off.
