Dvi -> Bnc

Does anyone know where I can find a cable that is a DVI to 5 BNC?

I need it for my PC Rig, my monitor takes 5xBNC in and my videocard is a DVI out. I can't seem to find one anywhere, Blue Jeans makes one but they are out and don't know when it will be back in.

I forgot to specify, it needs to be a DVI-I or DVI-A.

Thanks.

I have one, but it's VERY hard to find.

www.audiovideotechnician.comhas a lot of breakout cables for CRT projectors and monitors.

It can be found here: http://www.curtpalme.com/HDFury.shtm - there is a DVI to VGA adapter and then you have to get the VGA to 5BNC cable.

Have you ordered from them before? That looks to be what I need and the price looks good. As for the CRT, when I find a LCD that looks as good as it I will sell it and go with a LCD. It is a 24in Sony and it looks stunning, I have yet to see anything rival it.

Holly crap am I reading that right, $149 for the cable? Dam a little pricey for me, plus I forgot to specify that it needs to be DVI-I or A as it is coming from a computer.

The one from Pacific Cable is a passive connection - it just takes the analog portion of the DVI-I and connects to 5BNCs.

The one from Curt is active, meaning that it can connect to any video card, even those that are not passing an analog signal on the DVI port.

If you take a *digital* DVI connection and use the cable from Pacific Cable, you'll get no picture.

Ok now I am confused. The PC is using a BFG 8800GTS videocard, the DVI is a DVI-I. Currently I have it hooked up to the monitor using a DVI->VGA adapter and then a VGA cable to the monitor. I want to use DVI to BNC to skip the adapter, and because my monitor is supposed to perform better using BNC.

I thought that DVI-D was for digital signals, like a DVD player output to a TV while DVI-A was analog like outputting info from a PC.

So do you not think the Pacific cable will work in this situation?

I'm not sure. A while back I tried this with my HTPC and I got no picture.

Maybe it depends on the video card?

Although, I do know for sure that the DVI on this HTPC worked fine with my 34XBR960.

Dam thats right I did hookup my PC to my 960, I just couldn't get used to using my pc with it. I guess I have more reading to do, thanks for the heads up, I totally forgot that I did that for a week or so.

Good luck. I hope it works.

I still haven't been able to get this to work to this day. The only displays that worked were the Sony KD-34XBR960 and my 19" Dell LCD monitor.

When I tried DVI to BNC I got no picture. I'm thinking it's because some video cards do not pass the analog signal on the DVI port; only a *digital* signal on the DVI port, and a DVI to 5BNC cable does not have the ability to convert digital to analog.

Thats the reason I have been tentative. I haven't had much time to research it to make sure that it will work. I am worried because I have hooked it up to my 960 which means it is sending a digital signal.

I wish a local store carried the cable so it would be easy to return if need be.

That's what happened to me, after hooking it up to the 960 I realized it was sending the same type of signal that DVD players and cable boxes send on their DVI ports.

Appadv, I can't seem to find the info I need so I am just giving it a whirl. The only logical explination I can think of for the DVI being able to output to my 960 and through VGA to my monitor is that it is a DVI-I and can output both signals. If that is the case then the cable should work, but I'll keep you posted.

Sal, Thanks for the link, I was able to find one on ebay for $15 shipped which looks to be of good quality. Didn't even think of ebay for whatever reason.

IIRC, in the manual for the 960 it says something about the HDMI port not being "compatible with personal computers." So I was surprised when it worked with my HTPC through the HDMI port. But then again, when I tried to connect a Sony 22" CRT monitor, it did not work.

So - you're saying that the video card you have is able to output both signals? I know for sure mine doesn't.

Still waiting, I just got notice two days ago that it shipped out. Not sure why it took them a week to ship, but whatever. Should be able to report back this week.

I am now viewing club polk via a DVI -> BNC cable. It definitely works just fine.
