.........and I'll be damned if I can figure out how to get this thing to run correctly. It ain't the hard stuff, it's the basic stuff. Like getting the thing to play a record.

Close to 20 years without vinyl in MY rig means that I have forgotten pretty much everything but the sound.

Problem #1. Setup. Here's where my biggest issue lies. Instructions don't provide a shootout diagram on how this player is put together. [Platter, triangle thingy]

Problem #2. Tone arm applies so much pressure that the cartridge housing scrapes the record. [probably due to problem #1]

Problem #3. Refer to problem #'s 1 and 2. [after that, I am sure I will have more problems/tweaks]

The good news is that unlike the Rega P1, I can play the LP's with the lid shut. :D

ONLY kidding Hearing Impaired, only kidding. ;)

I can, however store it inside the lid when not in use which is cool for the WAF.

It's as if the platter needs to be lower or the tonearm needs to be higher. I have the weight at the back set all the way back and it still does it.

Take it easy, I just saw this. You need to level the tonearm and measure the distance from the record and the bottom of the armtube, front of the tonearm and back ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTURERS DIRECTIONS. On my tonearm the bottom of the armtube needs to be 3 mm off the record. If your cartridge is a match for the tonearm, and I assume it wouldn't have come with it if it wasn't, then the stylus when riding the grooves will have enough tension to keep the whole combo off the record and riding smoothly.

Make sure the back of the tonearm is high enough above the platter on the tonearm board.

    Tom call me.

Hey Izafar! My phone is dead at the moment [gotta love cell phones  ]. I can call you in an hour or so....

In the meantime, I might have figured out what's going on. The stepped motor pulley is too high [I think] because the platter is rubbing up against it. The only other part I see is "kind of" a triangle black plastic piece that looks like it goes over the three screws [don't have a clue where else it would go] at the bottom of the base before you install the big black plastic piece that has the spindle and actually holds the platter. When that is in, the record spins, but it spins slow and I think that is what is causing the needle cartridge to hit the record [due to the platter being too high].

I can easily move the motor pulley down, but I wanted to make sure I didn't screw anything up "trying" to figure it out.

    Am I hot or cold?

Oh boy, <head held down> Typing sucks. When I said "Hey YO!", it was me talking in my normal, friendly southern redneck kinda way. Not "YO! Damnit where are you at?". Sorry about that.

    Typing sucks.

At this point, I don't think it is the arm. Could be wrong, as I am a "rookie" at vinyl seeing as I haven't messed with it in my rig for almost 2 decades, but I believe I have issues with the platter and the height being too high.

Got it from Mr. Izafar. Got his #, just waiting on the cell phone to charge up. Gotta tell you H.I., this is one nice lookin' TT.

Matches the black piano finish of my Focal's. Even matches your clamp. Too cool. It's almost like "it was meant to be.....":D

He got this from me :(

I have gone through the similar issue or cartridge hitting the record, but this happens only when arm is not balanced and VTF is not setup right.

Well he's the guy then! I have an MMF - 9 sitting brand new in the box. It belongs to Liberty C (Billy) and I'm just waiting for him to get his butt down here so we can set it up.

Let me tell you, there is many a day when I want to say eff it and set it up without him but then my lovely wife reminds me, THERE IS NO WHERE TO PUT IT!!! Then she goes outside and smoke a cigarette.:D

Really if you can't get it give me a call a fresh head may come up with the solution.

Oh, I'm not mad or anything. I'm happy with the sale. H.I. just asked me why the TT was just sitting there like a paperweight in another thread. I told him I'd start another thread and walla. Here it is.

Isafar. Do you know what that little sorta triangled black plastic piece is for? I can't figure out for the life of me what it's for or where it goes.

Thats the belt changing tool, it doesn't go anywhere, and is only needed to safely remove the belt.

Isafar, the instructions actually have a drawing of that tool. It's part #19.

There is nothing in the instructions about this other piece. Damn, I wish I could draw a picture for you.

OK. I think I'm just gonna lower the pulley down to where the platter doesn't hit it and see what happens. I'll just notch the rod for reference if "the plan" doesn't work. The more I look at it, the more I think the pulley height doesn't matter.

    We'll see.

Haha. Gotcha. You can't do it when the charger wires are discombobulated amongst all the other wires associated with the computer and expect to walk away from the computer more than 2'. That was a good one though. Gave me a chuckle.

Good news. Talked with Izafar and yes, I put the damn thing together incorrectly. Threads go UP on the spindle, not down. That gave me the clearance needed. The little triangle thingy [and god, I feel stupid now] is actually for 45's. DUH!

Anyhoo, she's up, running and dialed in. The cartridge housing does not come close to the record now......in a manner of speaking of course. Now I have to hook my rig back up to listen to her [been doing some experimenting]. Thanks guys and thanks H.I. for the reminder to get it up and running. ;)

    Whoo-Hoo! :D:D:D

    HOT DIGGITY DAWG!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I got my rig set up about a half hour ago and listened to this record player with H.I.'s clamp. WOW. Just flat out WOW. Very nice sound, gawd it's good to vinyl back in my system. Something about analog just sounds good.

I am SO happy right now, this TT is simply schweeeeeeet! Sweet looking, sweet sounding, I feel like dancing. "Oh, Atlanta" by Little Feat off their Waiting for Columbus live album was a wonderful treat to listen to. Haven't played that exact record in my rig for close to 20 years. This record has probably been played 3,000 times [no joke] and is not in the best condition and it still sounded absolutely wonderful.

It was a treat not to hear the snap, crackle, pop like I was used to as a young boy. Yes, I heard them occasionally but definitely not like I remember. For a record that is not in good condition to sound that good, it gave me a smile from here to Canada. I can't wait to pull out some of the other vinyl that IS in good shape. This table blows the snot out of the Rega P1 and I am grateful to Izafar for hooking me up with such a nice toy.

Off to listen to some vinyl now! :D

Not to blow my own horn but that is mainly the clamp's actions dampening that noise.
