Antique Sound Labs Wave AV-25 9/10 Sold

If you are looking to get into the intoxicating sound of tubes the are great little amps. I replaced the original 12AT7 with a pair of Groove Tubes which I think sound better. I love these little amps but I don't get to use them enough to justify keeping them. They have 25 tube watts per mono block and have powered my Monitor 5's and RTA 11t's with great success. Included is original packaging, tube cage, original ASL 12AT7's, stock power cords and manual. These would make a great addition or staring point to any small 2 channel rig.

Polk Audio Monitor 5's with stands 9/10 Sold to Strong Bad.

These are the speakers that introduced me to the vintage sound of Polks. They are a great imaging speaker with a very respectable sound stage. I have $ 270 invested in these, my loss is your gain. They have the replacement RDO 194 tweeters and LSi style gold binding post. I have been very pleased with these monitors especially when powered with only 25 watts per channel. I just do not have the room to listen to them or a secondary rig like I thought.

Those preamp tubes are very similar to what's in my ASL MG head, so I'd imagine their sound to be similar, which is a good thing. That's a very nice pair of amps for the price...

Those monoblocks are very sweet, and with 25 watts can push a lot of speaker; for the DIY's, they can also be easily improved by changing one cap and a couple of resistors.

Great way of entering the tubes world.

Thanks for the kind words Ricardo. I agree with you I was surprised what 25 watt could do with my Monitor 5's and RTA 11t's. And yes a great way to get into tubes.

I would keep them if I had the room or my wife let me have another rig but it was not to be. I am concentrating on my 2B's and I am looking at getting a tube integrated for them.

I stopped by and met Scott today. Great guy to deal and talk with. I picked up the Monitor 5's which are in outstanding condition. Unbeknownst to me at the time, he had them connected to the Antique Sound Labs monoblocks. WOW!!! Don't let the 25 watt rating throw you off, these babies kick ****! If I had the $$$, they'd be coming my way! They were that good!

Thanks again Scott! Hope the scary Halloween fest went well!

Damn...I like the looks of those little mono blocks and I would imagine they would work PERFECT with my old Altec Lansing Milano's with their 15" woofers and big ol' horns! I just wish I could hear those puppies first. Sigh...

Let me do some thinking about what route I am going to go on the tube amps.

    What is their efficiency rating?

I think the Monitor 5's and RTA 11t's are in the low 90's and they get plenty loud with out breaking a sweat.

These are probably around 98db+ as they are only rated for 50 watts. But, that was 1971 power ratings! I bet these amps would have no problem with the Altecs.

Oh, here's a pic of their "guts".

I think they would do fine. I will let any of the more senor members comment on the combo because I do not know much if anything about horns and how the work with tubes.

You've got well over $1000 in drivers there, if they don't thrill you, part them out and use the money to get something that will.

I can't tell you how many Altec drivers I've sold to guys in Hong Kong, China, Japan, Korea....they are NUTS for those things.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Edit - Sorry Millerlitescott - I didn't even realize it was a FS thread, I just scrolled down and started reading

Honestly, they sound pretty damn good. I hooked them up to an old Technics integrated amp temporarily (SU-8055 47wpc) and they make a lot of things sound great. I'll probably keep them for awhile and see what happens.

I know those drivers bring a good chunk by themselves. I sold a pair of Valencias earlier this year for $900 to a guy up north and he had someone come by and pick them up to take them to crate up. They must have had some issues with crossovers or needed magnet recharging or something like that. Their upper end extension was limited it seemed but these, although they are basically the same drivers, sound much better.

Sorry to derail your thread, MillerLiteScott! I'll keep quiet about these the best I can! :)

I do like those amps, though.
