so your dad had a problem he couldn't solve with his Outlaw 990 pre amp.. so instead of asking you for help or God forbid call the Outlaws for help, he bought another pre amp? from the same company or different. interesting.
well either way. you got a free pre amp. and that's pretty cool. :)

Well -- plugged up the entire setup to it

For some reason... its like the signal is garbled...

Curiosity has me - so I cracked the hood, looks as if the RCA preouts are on a seperate board than the balanced outs --- do you think this could change the result since they are seperate boards?

garbled audio? then it's a digital cable problem perhaps? if you're using RCA's, then i don't know other then i've never heard garbled audio from a pre amp before. odd for sure.

maybe it needs it's software updated.

visit the Outlaw Audio forums.. check with gonk he's very, very helpful and knowledgeble too. Tell him Danger Boy sent ya. LOL

You must do the firmware update to the latest one. Than after you do that figure out the problem. Also 990's have a 5 year warranty on them.;)
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

    Well --

Im kind of figuring if it needs a couple hundred bucks 100-200 in repairs, I'm not going to find a better HT preamp than it for that price...

    So --

Shot off an email to Outlaw, see what they say

Send it in and act upset about it flaking out. Tell them you want it repaired under warranty or replaced. Outlaw has great customer service, so I'm sure they will hook you up.

Good luck! Audio companies seem to bend over backwards for customers in most cases, so I'm pretty confident you'll get it fixed/replaced for nada.

I bought a toshiba HD-A2 off CL locally. Even though it was 8 months old and I didn't buy it, didn't have a receipt, etc., they fixed a problem it was having for free. I only paid shipping to NY, which was $12.

Not sure if I am going to try to persue getting this fixed --

Outlaw pretty much sent me a generic response, basically not paying attention to any of the symptoms I described -- but basically said....

"Chances, are it can't be fixed... HOWEVER, if you would like to spend 75 dollars (+ shipping) to get it estimated or to see if it can be fixed.... here is what you need to do!"

I wouldnt mind doing that, but I definitely am not going to pay a 75 dollar bench fee for a repair. Thats right to the tune of twice as much as most other peoples bench fee -- in any repair shop...

So I shot off another email discribing more symptoms so maybe this guy can help me a little more than just recomending I blow my cash with him ---

    Shall see!

Well, if it can't be fixed, Outlaw will replace it, right? Read the warranty and see what it says. You should also call them and handle this issue with a real person.

BTW -- did your pops try and get Outlaw to fix it?

Most likely the analog in's are being converted to digital in the preamp, along with the other digital signals. So I doubt it would be related to the output board. It seems more likely to be a digital signal problem.

Do you have a DMM? Can you get a service manual?
