if anyone can help me that would be great! i have a xa2, onkyo 805 and sony kdl2500v. all hooked up with cheapie hdmi. i was very excited last night to play my first hd-dvd and too see 1080p light up on my xa2. but that did not happen.:( i have selected only 1080i resolution on my xa2 because every time i select 1080p i lose osd and it stops working.
In addition, both xa2 and the 805 only read multi channel. i would have thought i would get dd+ (transformers).
any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

I don't know about the 1080p thing, I'm not familiar with the XA2, but on the audio end do you have the audio out set to bit-stream to the onk?Casey

The XA2 does not currently send bitstream audio to the receiver, so it needs to be set to PCM. The XA2 will be doing the audio decoding and you will be getting the proper soundtrack. The receiver just won't say which sound format it is. Don't worry about it. A firmware update to add bitstreaming is forthcoming.
As far as the 1080p, your tv should accept it, the receiver should pass it, and the player can output it, so you should be getting it. The only thing I can think of is the cheapie HDMI cables aren't able to pass 1080p. There are different speeds of HDMI, and not all cables are certified for for passing 1080p. If it's not that I'm stumped. Did you try hooking the HDMI from the XA2 directly to the tv (bypassing the receiver)? -
it is a pia but i am going to try it tonight. thanks...Home Theater

Wow, the XA2 doesn't have bitstream audio yet? I thought for sure they had already released that update by now, but like I said I'm not that familiar with the XA2.Casey

I have had the same problem with my XA2 and Onkyo 705 passing 1080i and not 1080p. After reading this thread I have made a purchase of some high end HDMI cables and will see if it sorts the same problem for me
