enough power?
Is there a a/v receiver out there that will do a decent job of running a pair of lsi 15's. Will the onkyo 805 or yamaha 2700 do it. Money is an issue and I can't afford a separate amp right now.

some receiver's will power the LSi series ok.. not great.. and the receiver may get very hot, or keep shutting down so it doesn't get toasted. IF you don't plan on listening to your LSi's at high volume levels, you should be ok.
As you've probably read already.. of course a external amp is best to power those speakers. Even a lower wattage external amp can do wonders for those speakers.
If your budget doesn't allow for an amp, then maybe consider going with other Polk speakers.. the RTiA series perhaps?PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Well I was considering rocket 850's, which have the vifa tweeter and are 8 ohms and easier to drive. The wife likes the way the 850's look and the way the lsi's look. I was trying to stay loyal to polk but I don't know if my budget will allow. I can't get everything at once.

NAD should do a decent job of it while staying in your budget. (provided you are willing to purchase used)

I think my suggestion of a B&K receiver will be ruled out reading this mailman, but I've seen them on the used market pretty reasonable here lately though.

I would look for a used B&K AVR 305. They are solid, will drive the Lsi's, and are a generation back in the product line and seem to sell at pretty reasonable prices.DKG999

How about Outlaw's 2ch. receiver?"He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

Are you running a full 5.1 Lsi set-up or just a set of 15's? If it is just the 2 15's, the 805 or the 2700 will be ok. Some of the others like th NAD or B&K talked about will sound better. All talked about will have pre-outs so you could always add an amp later for an upgrade.Michael

My current receiver does not have pre outs, so I'm screwed there. I do plan on running a full 5.1 setup. I looked up the b&k and found one for about $900. Will this power a 5.1 of lsi's for the time being? The onkyo and yamaha have hdmi switching, but if the b&k is superior I could live without that. Also, no response about the rocket 850's. They are on sale right now for $999 plus shipping. Do the Lsi's really rock or what?

The Rocket's seem to get good reviews, and I believe we have at least a couple of members with them. I have only heard one set of Rockets, don't remember which ones, but they were impressive. Didn't win me over, but they weren't bad at all. The B&K receivers will run a 5.1 LSi system, at reasonable volumes, just make sure you have plenty of air space around the AVR. The B&K AVR's are pretty much separates in a single chassis, and have great pre/processors and great amp sections, but are a little shy on the bells & whistles.DKG999

the rockets and the lsi both use the vifa tweeter, correct?

you say that the rockets didn't win you over. Did the Lsi's win you over. How do the rockets sound in comparison? does anyone know? I'm nervous to buy speakers I haven't heard. I can listen to Lsi at a local audio store.

I don't like to buy anything I can't hear first. I did once and got burnt for doing it.Michael

I've never heard the Rockets and LSi in a direct comparison. I do remember that the Rockets I heard didn't have the smoothest x-over in them, I could hear some separation in the drivers. I also wasn't impressed with the soundstage, although that could of been the room/set-up. I believe the Rockets have a return policy so you can audition them. With the comments the AV123/Rockets products get, I think you are pretty safe in giving them a try.
I personally like the LSi line for HT. I wasn't, and still am not, impressed so much with them for music or 2 ch use. But I am very impressed using them for HT. You can't go wrong with LSi's in a combined HT/music system.DKG999
