i have a truck with a switch that turns on both batteries and allows you to run 24V things (jack-hammers, campers...) and i was just wondering if anybody knows if i can use this for my power-thirsty amps? How do you hook 2 batteries up so that the other is a backup, but wont frie anything else?...not sure what i am doing when it comes to DC current. any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you wire two 12 volt batteries in parallel, you will still have 12 volts. If you wire them in series, you get 24 volts. Parallel is tying the positive and negative terminals together of the batteries. Series is using the positive from one battery and the negative from the other for the feed and tying the remaining terminals together. I hope this helps.

    our polk installer is correct...

remember - most car audio amps wont handlemore than 16 volts --it'll cook 'em.... so parallelling is good for more current to feed thirsty amps.
