The Ohm loudspeaker is not a memorable loudspeaker regardless of power supply.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

My worst would have to be Pioneer CS-G403's. I bought them back when I thought bigger was better and they had a 15" woofer so what the hell right? I probably never had a proper amp to drive them to begin with but I heard a lot smaller speakers that I thought sounded better.

I still have them in the garage, I would sell them but I don't think anyone would want them.

they look like these I just found on ebay. They sold for $113? hmmm lol

I was disappointed with the NHT SuperOne. The tweeter was harsh and ragged sounding to me. Also there didn't seem to be as much detail in the midrange compared to some new speakers. It sounded stale and papery. There were some nice qualities in the mids on acoustic instruments, but even then there was an obvious coloration you could hear on a guitar or voice. The bass was really nice for such a small speaker, but they may have overreached, because I found that using a subwoofer and cutting bass out from them would clean up the midrange a lot at moderate levels.

To be fair, I had them very recently, not when they were a new design.

The Polk Monitor 7C was my biggest disappointment. This speaker did nothing for me. I like the Monitor 10's a lot. I thought these would be a slightly smaller version. NOT. The midrange sounded small and muddy. The bass was rumbly. The SL2000 tweeter wasn't up to snuff from a clarity perspective. UGH. I sold them and recouped my small investment. Lesson learned.

I know. There are some fickle opinions on here, though.

    I am hardly a fickle person --

You buy something brand new, you like it - pure and simple. You are not going to buy something, get it home and automatically hate it. That makes no sense....

So of course I liked/loved the RTi70 when I first got it home, who wouldnt. I didn't know what good sound was then. I plugged my RT35i back up a month later, just curious -- and absolutely astonished that the RT35i was exceling in every way except bass.

And I'm not trying to make you mad, I've heard from several people - with the right gear, you can get those speakers to sing.

But they were FAR from my cup of tea...

That all being said, I have absolutely hated every Klipsch, JBL, Bose, Infinity, and Cerwin-Vega product that has ever passed through here.

    Not to rebut, George, but...

I don't hate my Cornwalls, but there are high-efficiency speakers out there that are easier to live with. The Heresys and LaScalas are a bit much (Tom Brennan's Skilsaw analogy is pretty apt), and most of the later Klipsches are pretty aurally hostile.

Some of the 1950's JBLs are actually pretty darn nice. Heard a pair of C-38s this past weekend. No bass, but awfully pleasant otherwise.

Bose 301s aren't too bad if the price is right (they turn up periodically at the swap pile at the town dump).

I am right with you on the Infinities and the C-Vs, though! Some of the monster, multi-section Infinity speakers aren't bad, but they're huge, expensive, and need some pretty serious amplification hardware to be contenders.

Can't remember for sure, they have been tucked away in the closet for a couple of years. They were either KG1.5 or KG 2.5. I think they were the 1.5's with one mid/bass driver and one tweeter. I can look if you're curious. They sounded OK, just couldn't keep the tweeters from frying. Might have been the POS Yammerhammer amp I was driving them with at the time. It had a bad clipping problem at about half volumn.

Lower impedance speakers can sometimes make amps clip, destroying tweeters.
Maybe the 2.5's were 4 ohms and the yammahammer dd not like the load ?

I can't say I have been disappointed by any speakers I've owned. But, when you get everything for good/great prices, it's hard to complain.

I mean, my Monitor 30's weren't that wonderful when used in a 2-channel setup compared to other speakers I've heard/owned, but for $80 NIB no-tax shipped, they are nearly world beaters.

My current denon S301 speakers aren't great either for an MSRP of $1500 for the 2.1 channel + receiver / dvd / tuner setup (the mini-mirages with torn grill I got from Russ honestly sound as good or better). But, I didn't pay nearly that much so they are wonderful as glorified computer speakers in my office rig.

I had a pair of Sound Design single 4" cones with "wizzer" built in 1/4" particle board, covered in the finest viny wrap that echoed the look of a late model 70's wood-clad station wagon. They must have weighed 3.5lbs each, and were quite impressive with their thick foam grilles and ginormous 10" tall stature; although one time my hamster knocked one over (grrrr). They came with my all-in-one Sound Design 8-track player, and had "integrated" 22 gauge speaker cable. I thought these pups would rock----no dice.

I never understood this, as they sounded great in K-Mart's listening room.

Ya know, you can't judge a book by it's cover. And you can't judge a speaker by some moron who doesn't power them well or set them up well. Can't tell you home many times I have walked into a strangers house to see 10 grand speakers powered by an old adcom or even an old pioneer intergrated.Like they blew their whole wad on the speakers and just used what was hanging around for power. Most people not into audio think it's only the speakers themselves that sound good or bad.Example you say, here's one.Top of the line Merlin's driven by a so called top of the line HK receiver.Ya think it will sound like ****?? But the owner blames it all on the **** speakers, and hence will most likely bad mouth them to others.I see stupid stuff like this all the time.Or they have some other nice floor stander sandwiched in a corner next to a tall bookshelf. So consider your environment and set up before throwing daggers at any one brand.Bose excluded of coarse.:D
