Did I miss out on the Sony DVP-NS775V DVD/CD/SACD player?

Recently, in my futile attempt to downsize my component inventory, I sold my Oppo 970. Of course, I had my eyes set on the new Oppo 980. However, I also have an unopened Sony DVP-NS775V DVD/CD/SACD player sitting in the garage that I purchased brand-new for $100.00. Before opening it up, I decided to look on the internet and see opinions on this player. I am surprised, first of all, that a refurbished NS775V can be had directly from Sony for $60.00 shipped (until Thursday)....

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&productId=11032832&langId=-1

Then I discovered this player actually has quite a following....

From the above link....
I think the NS775 is a little better with SACD and redbook than the (Philips) 963SA and a whole lot better transport.

Hopefully, this will be my impression as well once I open up the Sony.

BTW, SACDMods.com consider the NS775V to be mod-worthy....

That looks like a nice player for $60.It might be a good candidate for some modifacations.

I have the NS755. Bought the Oppo 970 to replace it in the HT and moved the Sony to the bedroom system.
    Fast foward 8 months..........
Sony is back in the main system...love this player. I feel audio, especially the SACD side of things trumps the Oppo.

I ordered one last night and I'm going to send it off to SACDmods for a 2 channel upgrade.

I have been very impressed with what Matt did with the CE775.

Interesting ,do you know what he mods in the player? Is it just a passive parts upgrade or does he mod the analog section?

I got my NS775V on Wed. and put it into the 2-channel rig that night. Not half bad for $60. Much better than the so called giant killer (Toshiba SD-3950) I tried out a few years ago . Tour2ma and I listened to several SACDs and a couple of redbook disks and it was OK, especially with SACD. It's not going to kick my primary players out of the rig as it stands now...but I'm still thinking of sending it off to SACDmods to see what Matt can do with it. After that who knows. If nothing else, for $60 I have a decent backup SACD/DVD player.

Not yet. My 2 systems are in disarray and I will try to sort things out this weekend.

BTW, check the owner's manual to confirm, if you are using the analog outputs, make sure to disable the digital output(s) for the best sound. This was mentioned in my NS500's owner's manual.

Crap...that means I need to get some sort of monitor hooked up cause the menu can't be accessed without it.
