Hybrid SACD Question

Do hybrid SACDs sound better on redbook CD players than the standard CD from the same artist? Just wondering if there's any advantage to buying the hybrid version without a SACD player.

Thanks.

That depends but from my experience they do.

If they re record the tracks and make the SACD version as well as a CD version then it should be off better quality, since the CD portion is coming from a better source then the original.

If it were a flipper disc they may use the re recorded tracks for the SACD portion only, and use the original release for the CD side.

If the same source material was used for both CD layer of a hybrid SACD and the regular CD release, and both are played back on the same player, I don't think think there would be much difference. However, dependent on the title, a SACD release may signal that the album was newly remastered and that may mean improved sonics for the CD layer as well.

This is just my opinion....good sounding SACD capable players are not that expensive and if you see SACD titles you like, I highly recommend adding such a player to your equipment rack.

That's the issue. Very few SACD titles interest me enough to warrant the purchase of an SACD player.

BTW -- what's the status of SACD? Is it a dead format or are manufacturers still cranking them out?

Refurbished Sony DVP-NS775V SACD/CD/DVD player directly from Sony. $60.00 shipped, until Thursday. Just sold my Oppo 970 and will be using this player until further notice.

SACD logged 568 new SACD titles as of today in 2007.

Just a thought...I might buy one of these and send it off to SACDMODS. For $450 you would have a kick **** SACD player.

Has anyone had a problem with hybrids SACD's on their SACD player?
Telarc Tchaikovsky 1812 by Erich Kunzel and Orchestra does not work on my Integra DPC-8.5.

I've been playing with this thought since Danny posted in some other thread this player; the ONLY thing that keeps me from doing it is that I don't have space in my rack. I guess I still have a few hours to make up my mind...

Me as well. I have never modded any of my components, so it's kinda hard for me to overcome my reluctance.

The one's I have got sound better, but I'm sure there may be some I haven't run across that might sound worse due to original tape degradation or badly/improperly remastered tracks/albums. I hope I'm wrong.

I have noticed on a few that it sounds like the hybrid's gain is set too high resulting in a higher noise floor or more background noise when there shouldn't be. When I notice this, it is present on both RB and SACD layers.

I decided not to get the Sony; instead, I will send my Audio Research pre for some mods I found they perform while browsing SACDmods.

Thanks Danny for finding me a way to spend some money:)
