Wiring options in a stereo setup

The receivers in question are the Harman Kardon 3385:

or the Onkyo 8522:

I am buying lower wattage receivers to preout them to an Adcom amplifier I plan on purchasing via ebay, probably the GFA 555 or 5500 (200 wpc). The HK and Onkyo integrated amplifiers (which I know I'm just using as preamplifiers) better suit my budget since I am having trouble finding a decent quality preamp in that price range (the adcom preamps I am finding on ebay are 2-3 times the price of either one of these integrated amplifiers). Is 200 wpc too much for the rt800i's? I know they are rated up to 250 wpc but I would feel uber bad if I blew out one or both of these speaker due to ignorance. I am aiming for having the option of loud volume listening (not all of the time, but if I throw a kickin' party, it'd be nice ) but also having a very nice daily listening system.
The HK receiver has sub preouts, the Onkyo does not. The speakers I own are RT800i's and the subwoofer I plan on purchasing to replace my PSW12 is the Hsu Research VTF 2 MK3 (both subwoofers have single LFE input, R/L line level input, and R/L speaker inputs with crossover output to speakers).
When wiring my subwoofer to my two-channel stereo system, I have three options:
1) Single LFE mono output from receiver to the subwoofer LFE input
2) Right and Left channel subwoofer specific outputs from receiver to the subwoofer's Right and Left inputs
3) If I choose the buy a receiver without a specific sub pre-out, then my last option would be to send the speaker signal through the crossover in my subwoofer through the left/right channels via speaker cable and then sending the signal from my subwoofer to my speakers.
My second question would be what is the best option for top sound quality when given these subwoofer wiring options? With options 1 and 2 I recognize the option of frequency overlap for better blending between speakers and subwoofer which makes me lean towards the HK receiver with sub-preouts. Even with that option, is the right/left preout input superior to the single mono LFE input?
I plan on using Impact Acoustics Velocity bulk speaker cable and their interconnects as well.
Lastly, does anyone have any criticisms with this setup, suggestions, comments?
This is essentially my first real stereo system that I am putting together. Every component is going to be used/refurbished to fit my budget (except the sub since noone wants to sell their HSU's, they must be that sweet ). Any suggestions, and positive criticism is welcome. I am no audiophile and don't claim to be. I just appreciate what I consider good sound when I hear it which is why I like l like Polk's value.

Just a suggestion, can the sub idea and put that money into a pre amp.Political Correctness'.........defined

I was considering that at one point in time. I got to hook up my speakers to a low-line Yamaha HT receiver with the LFE sub out and everything, and the little PSW12 couldn't keep up with half of my music and was distorting pretty badly with the volume at about half on the sub. The rt800i's overpower them quite badly.
I listen to a very wide range of music, anything ranging from acoustic and alternative, to hip-hop and electronica. I a bit of a bass head when it comes to the latter choices so I demand a heavy amount of bass out of my speakers. -
Ok, so I've been looking harder on ebay, it's 3:36 am, and there looks to be some damn good deal on preamps. It will probably be worth the little extra money. The questions still stand though.
