rti4 / lsi7
has anyone compared these two outright? I'm thinking about upgrading. Yes, I'm aware of the many rti vs lsi threads - but again, has anyone done a direct comparison between the two?

i've had them both in my house at the same time. I didn't do a direct comparison. My impression from spending time with them both, is that the RTi4 is a pretty amazing little speaker at its price point ......... but the LSi7 is a lot more speaker as it should be for the price difference.DKG999

It's been a couple years, but I did listen to the RTi4, RTi 6, LSi7 and LSi9 when I was shopping for new speakers for the diningroom. Ended up buying the RTi6. The RTi4 sounds good, but is so lacking in low end (for my taste) that I wouldn't use it w/o a sub. I liked both the RTi6 and LSi7; they are different, but scored about equal in the end. The LSi9 I heard must have been defective, as they sounded simply pitiful--no one in their right mind would have picked them over the LSi7.
In the end I bought the RTi6,as it was half the price of the LSi7.
As always, YMMV, so go listen for yourself!

Sounds like the LSi9s were defective or underpowered.

The LSi9 didn't just sound under powered, they sounded like crap--I'd rather have the Insignias in my office than those 9s.:(
IIRC the they were driven by a Pioneer Elite reciever. Not a great setup, but it should have been sufficient for modest listening levels. I have also heard LSi15 on a Pioneer Elite and on some sort of Yamaha AVR--they didn't really sing, but they didn't sound like crap either.
