Advice on SDA-2's vs. SDA-1's?

Hello everyone!

Has anyone ever compared the SDA-1's to the SDA-2's?

I currently own the SDA-1's (two vertical tweeters, four drivers and a passive subwoofer in each cabinet).

But I am wondering if I might be better off with the SDA-2's as I live in a medium sized apartment (with neighbors close by, so it can't be all that loud) - that if I could find a really great pair of SDA-2's, then I might sell the SDA-1's.

The SDA-2's have the one tweeter, two drivers and one subwoofer (like the SDA-CRS but with a larger cabinet).

Any points of view would be very appreciated.

Thank you.

Just because they are bigger doesn't mean you have to play them like they are. Keep them and enjoy them.

From my personal experience, they are similar in sound. The SDA1's have more bottom end and I think the highs are a little more focused.

Footprints are very different on either. The SDA 1's being taller.

I own earlier sda 2's. they have two tweeters. I love the sound of my sda 2's and would not trade them.

IMHO I would keep the SDA 1's. Get a nice strong amp not high watt and continue to enjoy them at a lower volume.

For your situation you aren't going to notice too much of a difference and your neighbors won't notice any difference.

The 1 C's do dig deeper they have better dynamics and scale, etc. but at lower listening levels the differences are hardly noticeable and certianly not worth the hassle of selling/buying, shipping, etc.

The CRS will be quite different as they don't have the scale and dynamics of a floorstander and the bass extension is much less but you still get that wonderful SDA effect.

IMO, the CRS is the best consideration if you really feel you are going to have an issue with neighbors. If it were me I'd keep what I have as they have very good low level detail and are very enjoyable even at low listening levels.

My 1C's sound great in a fairly smallish medium room and I don't have to play them real loud to get great sound.

Thanks for the replies. I am going to look for a pair of SDA 2's but within driving distance. I can't imagine having these size speakers shipped. I spoke to one of the tech's at Polk and he mentioned that, if the cases aren't protected with adequate packing, they can certainly be damaged. At any rate, the cost for shipping would be enormous. Anyway, if I can find a pair of SDA 2's, I will get them and set them alongside my CRS's and my SDA 1's. The CRS's I bought new and the SDA 1's I picked up a few months ago for $300.00. Both sets work pretty well but again, I am still intrigued with the SDA 2's. From my own research, the SDA 2's may prove to be the best speaker for my environment. Of course, only obtaining them will tell. At any rate, having the SDA-CRS's, the SDA-2's and the SDA-1's would really not be a bad collection at all. And if I decided to sell the SDA-1's after getting the SDA-2's, I'm sure I can easily get my money back.

the SDA 1C's are quite a bit more advanced than the SDA 1's..

i'm beginning to get a soft spot for these SDA 2B's I have... even though the right ch is giving me fits right now. they really do sound very good. I've by no means owned every model or even heard every model of SDA, but these 2B's have impressed me in a very short time.

My experience is that for dollar for dollar the 2's give you great value. Even the 2A's ain't to shabby sounding either. But for wow factor in looks.. the 2B's beat the 2A's.

IMHO SDA 2A's and B's are very underrated and in the right environment with a good source can sound great! I bought a pair of 2A's new and until recently have had many years of pleasure from them. [I've also had other speakers but always liked the SDA's] Since I had the 2A's for so many years I've tried quit a few combinations of amps from Carver to Parasound with several in between. A good source can make a big difference also!! One of the best upgrades I made was replacing the SL2000 tweeters with the silk replacements..the silks really need to be heard. Most here really like them and I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the improvement they made! My personal favorite is the 1C. They have a little more on the low end and the mids are also a tad better. Enjoy your SDA's.

I doubt you'll hear much of a difference, keep the speakers and turn it down.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
