Got the remote . . . haven't tried it out yet. What kind of warm-up time does the preamp need? I'm kind of limited for time as I am using the smaller batteries that only last 3 hours.
-
I'd give it about 20 minutes. Ron(Welborne) said that he uses ring terminals for the larger batteries, and they are easily found at a hardware store....just for future reference.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Excellent that's an answer to a later question. Ok I'm going to give it a go. Be back later to report.
-
I have a problem. Only the left side of the preamp is outputing sound. I switched the tubes and the right side remains silent. The display is blinking and the sound goes on and off in the same pattern. I think it is trying to alert me to something. Any idea?
-
Make sure you have the cables connected correctly. It's not a normal backpanel.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
-
right I'll doublecheck, but I think I have it right.
-
The right tube is not illuminating at all compared to the left tube. Both tubes work however.
-
It's hooked up perfectly. I think there is something wrong with right output. The right tube is not lighting up at all.
-
Swap the batteries. Did you charge them?CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
-
I did swap them. Not sure if they are charged. I'll let them sit a while to see.
-
really it shouldn't matter as the swapped battery which works on the one side, made no difference on the other. God, haven't had an issue with electronics in a while. Forgot how frustrating it can be.
-
Well, it worked for weeks here, perhaps something was jostled during shipment. Shoot me an email, we'll figure it out. There is some information in the owners manual and ensure you have the leads connected right.
What exactly flashes on the display?CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
I sent an email.

We narrowed it down to a dead battery. Mike's gonna keep his busy hands off of it for awhile so the batteries can fully charge then he will sonically attack it again tomorrow.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Thanks Mark for being patient. I know what I like to hear and how I like to hear it, but beyond the power button, I am a technical moron. Thank God its only the battery. I nearly cried looking at the design and construction instructions. I'll let it sit for the night.

Well its been a long wait, but the preamplifier is finally here and all hooked up. First impression . . . yup, its the quietest damn preamp I have ever heard. Not a bit of hiss. I love that. First impression of the sound. Crisp and clean. Fast as hell. I like it.
In fact, my first thought honestly. There are few times in my life when I have felt like kissing a man, but Mark if you were here we'd make out. "I love ya' man!" YES IT SOUNDS GREAT! -
And you know what else . . . it arrived just in time for Klaus to stop by and have a listen.

Just be careful if you put your hand in his pocket, rumoured to have multiple appendages..........

Mike - It's been great dealing with you and thanks for your patience.
We had a broken wire in shipping on the output stage of the left channel and one battery went into discharge within an hour of him owning the pre-amp but we got everything worked out.
Ron @ Welborne is a great guy and he personally fixed the problem for a nominal fee, which was helpful to me I sent Mike some new 6v batteries and the rest is history.
Enjoy the pre-amp but don't call me anymore Happy Listening!CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -

This explains all the material ways Mark helped me out, but it should be noted that he was incredibly good at communicating and walking me through whatever issues or elements of the preamp I needed explained.
Thanks,
Mike
