Is it just me, or is the equipment being reviewed getting less and less "affordable"? $1800 bookshelf speakers, $799 power cords, $429 IC's?

I can assure you, affordability is as keen as ever. To balance out the October issue, we covered a $115 vintage receiver and a $10 pair of vintage speakers. We also covered the $149 Trends Amp. So, in reality, I think we are doing pretty well.
In the coming months I, myself will be reviewing two vintage turntables, a vintage receiver, a $900 pair of towers, and a $750 int. tube amp.
one thing to keep in mind that lots of times a writer may request one thing and the manufacturer will send a far more expensive unit. Not to mention, letting Zero push the envelope price-wise. Afterall, on occassion one of us average joe's gets lucky and moves up the financial ladder.

Nice job on the Bookshelf review. Would have liked to see a paired of the Lsi9's and the Era D5's in their. But all in all was intresting to say the least, would have loved on of those steaks :)

As the article on the $429 ICs implied, they can actually be acquired for significantly less than retail price brand new on audiogon. Trust me, the MAC Palladiums are worth every penny. I bought the review pair and they are phemonenal cables, and I'm definitely a bargain shopper when it comes to audio.

Also keep in mind that the prices quoted in the articles are retail prices, which don't mean squat.

I was bit surprised that they chose to use a subwoofer in the shootout, but that was Craig's choice and I respect it. I'm just very grateful he allowed A$$A to publish the event and results.

Affordable is all a matter of scale, but does have a limit (imo) - and Mark has yet to reach it.

Keep it up, and keep it honest.

    Cheers,

    Mick:
In the Sept 2007 issue I reviewed the Power1 by AudioArt. If you have some suggestions I'm more than happy to consider them.

Thanks, we try to do our best. I was blessed to grow up watching my father run his pharmacy on pure integrity, he didn't get rich in dollars, but in respect he was a multi-millionare.

I'm always open for suggestions on products to review. If anyone has a suggestion, one of us will do our best to get a review sample. But, some companies aren't as open as others, or only want the paper magazines to review their product.

Very good point marc, the glossies will get some of the bigger 'named' products a whole lot easier. That does not by any means better products or reviews lol. I think you do a good job filling the niche of affordable buyers our there. Just for everyone they slightly different brackets. But to be honest who has never extended they wallet for a piece they thought they could not 'affiord'.
