Need a stand that can hold CSi5 and electronics

Guys,

I've been looking for months for a nice, wooden stand that will

a) house the CSi5 inside of if (dont want it above tv, window is there). and
b) house my DVD/Cable/Reciever.

I have found hundreds that will do A OR B, but not both...anytime they have a large enough cavity to house the CSi5, either i have to put electronics above or below and there isnt enough room...try to place them side by side, and the stands arent long enough.

diamond case is the only brand i've found so far, but being they are 2000 miles away, and the shipped price is pretty expensive, i'm hoping there are a few more options.

any suggestions???

Im here to sympathize with you, not give answers. I went through much the same pain as you as I wanted a center speaker to fit in the cabinet as well. You'll laugh if you check my signature and see what I did before I got my new stand. My goal was to hide all my current components and have room for future ones as well and to house a LSi C (future upgrade). I searched for months upon months and nearly snapped when nothing came about. Finally I came across the BDI TV stand I currently have.

When in doubt hire a cabinet maker :D

It's really true that a small independent cabinet maker could probably create a cabinet solution that would work perfectly ...and be affordable too.

Speaking of something to hold speakers - My needs are somewhat more simple. Does anyone have a couple of those little plastic base pieces that allow the RM Series to stand-up vertically?

Maybe some of you put your RMs on a stand or hung 'em on the wall and perhaps you have these little titanium-colored plastic stand thingys sitting around somewhere.
I thought of wrapping the speaker ends in celophane, sticking them in a 1 gal Baggie and shooting in some expanding urathane foam. This would create a sculptable "base" that could be painted or ?? It sounds kinda messy but...

    Thanks in advance, Jane

Zsolt - We have very similar systems. Your new amp should do nicely to drive your LSi25s. Drop me an email - I have some questions about how you set your system up. I'm sure it sounds great!

Check these out. A bit expensive for me but they might work for you.
I think these are real wood.

I had to buy mine from Polk to hold my RM202's. I think they were about $25.00 each. I got them through tech support.

Yeowee!! Twenty-five dollars EACH for four ounces of extruded plastic. I would like to stay OEM but right now I'm gonna start looking for that expando foam!

Thanks for the heads-up Sansui. Now I'm flashing back to my visit to the local Bimmer parts department last week. I thought they were gonna have to offer me zero-down financing for a couple small plastic cosmetic dashboard pieces.

Both Polk and BMW must be using some high quality "imported" plastic, I guess. Jane

I tried to find them at the Polk Online Store and I guess they don't sell them anymore. Seems to me I ordered them straight from tech support.

I'm pretty sure they weren't $25.00 for the pair. Not only are they made of high quality imported plastic but you have to consider design costs, R&D costs, and testing to make sure they won't have any (unforeseen) problems when the customer get a hold of them. :)

You're welcome. I just wished they sold out of their headquarters office here in Baltimore. It's my understanding they don't and I'm only about a 25 min. drive from there.

Now that Tweeters won't list on their website what they have I won't go there because I don't want to waste my time finding out they don't have what I'm looking for. I'm guessing, what I'm sure, is high pressure salesmanship. Why else would they not list their inventory like they used to and "force" you to come into their store to see what they have?

CC is about the only other place around here to hear Polk speakers if they "accidently" have them out and hooked up already.

    !

I will have a couple of those things laying around once I get my speakers up on the wall however since I live in remote rural Canada the shipping would be prohibitive. It would probably be cheaper for you to pay the 25$ and be done with it rather than spend 150-175$ for shipping and duties. Wish I could be more of a help.

Call Polk, they can hook you up with any parts you may need.

Thanks Zsolt, Gee are shipping and duties really that high in CN? That must be to encourage trade to stay within Canada. Here in the US we seem to incentivize Third World Countries to deluge us with cheap products made by impoverished peoples. As a result certain products are no longer produced in the US at all - Like cameras, consumer electronics, even steel, etc. Most semiconductors are manufactured in Asia.

Anyway thanks for the thought. I still do want to ask you some questions about your system but can't post private responses until I have posted 10 public ones. So email me directly will ya? - My profile lists my email and contact info ( I think). Jane

Here in So CA there is a chain of consumer electronics stores called Fry's Electronics. Fry's has a pretty good selection of products including many PolkAudio speakers, hooked up and available to listen to in acoustically neutral "demo" rooms. It is pretty cool to compare speakers, literally side-by-side. But the comparison is quite subject because depending on the speaker's input impedance the driving amp will make the sound pressure greater or lesser. Many people will choose the "louder" speaker as the "better" speaker. Of course there is no substitute for takin' 'em home and auditioning them in YOUR "demo" room! Jane

That's what is decent about Tweeters. If Fry's was around your area when I grew up and moved from So. Calif. to here I wasn't aware of them. I never heard of them until I started visiting this forum. I wish they were here now. CC's listening rooms in this area is close to a joke. BB, here anyway, doesn't have a room at all. It's got just a thin regular store isle that puts one about 3' from the amp(s) driving their speakers. So their speaker groups are about 4.5' from the listener.

I hope you find your plastic stands but chances are when you do there will be speakers attached to them. :(
