I want to pick up a cheap laptop (new) but it can be older model (XP), and don't need a huge hard drive. It's for my 80+ yr old mom. Any suggestions on some online sellers? It seems you should be able to pick up a decent machine for under $500 if you only need 30 gig and not a lot of RAM. Thanks.

Try craigslist for a local purchase. Last year I bought a brand new laptop with warranty for my wife via craigslist for about $400 cheaper than retail.

I will also say craigs list. If all she needs to do is surf the net and check e-mail you can probably get a used one for a couple hundred.

Ya, you can get a new good laptop at times on the Dell site for $500. I have bought 250 Dells (150 are laptops) now at work and some of them are approaching 3 years old. I have had about 3 problems total that required us to call up their support to come out and fix (motherboard in all 3 cases). Friggen things are rock solid.
