Question about rt20p

I just recently got a pair of rt20p tower speakers, and I'm wondering if the way I'm thinking about hooking them up would work well. Biwire to the speaker level input, remove the jumpers and change my speaker settings on the avr from small to large and set sub to off. If I did that would I get just as good of bass as if I were using the sub pre out? also would those speakers give me more or less bass then the velodyne sub that I already have, its the vrp1000. thanks
