I remember a year or so ago when someone had an onkyo mc35tech receiver only that languished around and finally sold for something like $60. I almost bought it at that time just for kicks. Well, now I need one and they're not easy to find. Just need a small receiver, like a castoff from one of those shelf systems. I know doro had a nice denon once too. If someone has the whole system I'd also consider that.

    bump

Anyone know where I could get an R-805x (the receiver piece of the MC35Tech) or equivalent?

I was about to just get a T-amp instead, but I really need a tuner also.

I remember when Macmall had these solo pieces for sale as refurbs a few years ago too. Really wish I had moved at the time, now just can't find anything like this.

There's one on eBay right now + a matching 3-disk CD changer (no affiliation). Item number: 110177992169.
I was checking that listing again, and noticed the following in the item description:
<< Amplifier AM/FM radio model R-805, radio NOT working, amplifier is working >>
... I wonder what in the tuner could actually break???

I bought mine used about a year ago, and NOT even thinking about replacing unless I happen to run across a good deal on a more powerful Denon set.

Those compact Denons were the only other thing I considered at the time, too, something like the current DRA-F101 the receiver from the D-F101S system.

Also Dakmart (and others) sell refurb. Denons separately if the only thing that you want is a compact receiver, which will also give you a warranty.

The HK 3380 can be found for like $125 - $150 refurb. Great little receiver with tuner, remote, good power, etc. I got my 3480 for $165 NIB (not reburb or anything).

EDIT: NM, you'd need a real big shelf to have the HK as a shelf system.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, keep 'em coming. This system is for my computer which sits on the extra kitchen counter, so I'm looking for something with as small a footprint as possible. I can play cds in the computer, but I really can't live without a tuner. That's why the little orphan receiver from one of these system would be perfect. The T-amp would be perfect too if I could solve the tuner problem. I tried a tivoli on clearance from target for $60. It had a line in and I thought I almost had the problem solved, but the sound was just too weak.

sorry mouse, still too big and would involve too many cables. Really looking for something small but ok sounding. Finally an apparently working r-805x showed up an ebay.....
