Center speaker upgrade-please be kind
Hello all. I'll preface this by saying that I know that what I'm doing is totally wrong from a true expert's point of view, but please understand my situation. My living room is probably the worst sound chamber... tile floors, pitched exposed wood/beam ceiling; one wall completely open to dining room, & on & on. Add to this, I finally convinced my wife that we sould wall mount a 50" plasma (Pio5080) on the wall so i've pretty much used up my brownie points. My HT setup is an Onkyo 800, with all of the supplied speakers. I accept the fact that I'll never have a really great sound experience in this environment, however, given my room's limitations, the music isn't that bad. What is bad, however, is the dialogue on TV/DVD.
I went to my local Frys and the young salesman was kind enough to pull one of my Onkyo F/C speakers and wire it up to the shared input in the test room next to all of the "upmarket" centers. Of all the centers available (9 or so), the 2 that stood out for carity were the CS1 and the CSR. The CSi3 (also in my budget) was disappointing, but I really believe that the tweeter was not functioning at all, as the sound was very muffled.
Am I throwing away $$ by putting a CS1 in the middle of my system? At this point all I want is clear dialogue. I might be able to upgrade the fronts in the future, but right now all I need is to be able to understand what they're saying onscreen.
TIA
Bill.

Welcome Bill. Since the center channel is the most important channel when it comes to playing movies, by all means upgrade to the biggest baddest CC you can get.
