Am I hooking something wrong?

Hi, I have a Lightning Audio S4.600 Amp and if I bridge the 2 rear channels I get 450RMS. I tried to install the MM124 and it was working for about 5 min and then all the fuses on the amp as well as the inline fuse blew. Does anyone know why this would happen? What is the actual ohms reading for that sub? My amp bridged is suppose to be stable at 4ohms. Please let me know, any suggestion are welcome. Thanks.

hmm... well.. i'm no expert but i do believe that you wont get a 4 ohm sub from polk that's going to fluctuate beyond 3.7 / 4.3 if even that much... chances are it'll be 3.9 / 4.0 / 4.1

then again i could be wrong..

    ligntning 400.4 is 75 x 4... 200 x 2 bridged

    600.4 is 100 x 4.... 300x 2 bridged if i'm not wrong... so i dunno where u're getting 400 from.

as far as blowing fuses.. well.. if you're trying to run a momo off a 300 watt bridge chances are you've got the gain literally cranked to the max, throwing the amp into clipping and thus making it go haywire, overdraw its power supply, heat up, and blow the fuses.

thats just my guess tho... if the amp was run with the gain at half to 65% off a 2v rms preout then i really don't know why it would do what your'e describing unless you crossed a wire somewhere and jacked it up yourself.

if the ohm load was too low the amp would simply heat up and go into thermal protect. i doubt it would blow all your fuses.... then again its a lightning audio bolt series, so i don't know how well their internal protection cirtuitry is built.. i've seen some sony's literally catch on fire because they're thermal / protect citcuits are so poor.

The amp is the Lightning Audio Strike Series and not the Bolt Series. I am getting about 300 to 400 RMS from the rear channels bridge. This amp has a different power rating for the channels. Also I think my problem was the ground was loose from the frame of the car. Do you know if its a good idea to run the ground all the way to the battery. Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

the ground wire shoul dbe as short as possible -- preferably under 2 -3 feet.

what you need to do is take a file / knife / whatever and scrape the heck out of the body panel you are going to attach the ground to -- after that... make sure all the paint is gone and its bare and smooth and then get your terminal on there solidly -- use a nut and bolt if you have to.

dont go running it to the battery --- thats just 2- more feet of 2 gauge and it may even cause problems.

sorry about confusing series of the amp --- most lightning users have teh bolts -- its rare (and pleasant surpruse) to see / hear of hte strike or storm series amps as they are vastly nicer and waymorebang for the buck :o) good luck.
