Preamp for new audio formats?

Are their any preamps out there with the decoders for the new audio formats? I don't want to upgrade my whole AVR just to get some extra audio formats for the home theater, so maybe a preamp would be the solution.

Two very popular sold out models. Integra DTC-9.8. And the Onkyo Pro pr-sc885p. Denon's coming out with a much pricier spare no expense model soon as well. But at the pricepoints of the integra and onkyo pro, those are hard to beat.

I have had the Onkyo PR-SC885P for a couple of days now. So far, I really like it.

And they are not sold out everwhere, I ordered mine from Troxell Communications last week, and it was at my door a week later.

Nice, so can you compare it to any other equipment you've listened to?

Huh? Do you plan to use your AVR as a multi-channel amp only?

I've had my eye on this one for a while...

Eventually. I started to set it up Thursday night, but as I was putting my rack back in place, one of the casters broke off! I had to tear the whole rig down to replace the casters, and re-wire everything last night.

It then took an hour to set the whole thing up (a million options), so I've only listened to it for about two hours so far. I have not even run the Audyssey setup yet, but will probably try that this weekend, and see if it is better with, or without. So far I like what I hear.

I'm spending this morning setting up my Harmony remote, because I really hate the Onkyo remote. There is not much in the Harmony database yet (big suprise), so it is taking longer than usual.

I waited several month to try and get an Integra 9.8 and finally gave up and bought the Onkyo 805 and just used the preouts.... The next day a dealer called me up and told me they had one in for me right then and there.... oh well. The 805 does everything I need any ways. The 9.8 basically has a few more hdmi ins and outs and up converts some stuff better. It also has the balanced preouts.

Unless your going to also spend the money on an HD DVD or Blu-ray player with a 1.3 HDMI output that can pass the new audio formats out via bitstream a new pre-amp won't do you much good.

That Emo pre/pro is sweet. I currently have the LMC-1, which has been problem free for me. It has it's limitations, but I have enjoyed it so far. That MMC-1 is much nicer!

The next gen emo stuff will be out in the next few months, with support for all the current High rez audio formats, and 4 HDMI inputs on the LMC-2. I think a potential MMC-2 could have 6 HDMI ins and 2 outs. Will be feature rich, that's for sure!
