Anyone ever repair the surround on an MW driver?

I've got to do some "repair" if possible on those SRS 2.3's I bought for my best friend. 4 of the drivers on the right side have "cat scratch fever" where a cat apparently scaled the grill cloth climbing to the top and managed to snag 4 of the drivers right there in a row. There is no cut on them more than 1/4" in size and there is no rubber missing. Short of trying to find drivers on Eprey, is there any known method of fixing them to get by till drivers can be found? Unfortunately, 2 of the drivers are the MW6513 "donut" drivers of which there are no plans for sourcing new ones per Ken. The other 2 are the MW6510 dimensional drivers. I've heard of doing some repair work on the back side of the surround with some sort of rubber cement and putting black electrical tape on the front of the surround to keep its shape as the cement dries. Not sure, though. I'd rather these be ready to go when I take them to him the weekend of October 12th thru 14th as his 40th birthday is on the 12th.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Now, if any of you just "happen" to have some of these laying around not being used, that might be an option!

GE Black Silicone to the rescue:)

I have repaired a 6500 and 6600 by just using black silicone. It seals and it flexes and lasts forever. It is not a beautiful sight but it does the job. keith

Here is somethin I found on the web http://www.polytek.com/newsletter/developments/26/html/body_page_4.html
The Silicone repair is Not "pretty", but pretty is as pretty does.
RDO 194's breaking in in SRS 2's as we speak in other room.
Got the B 52's cranked in there, really BRIGHT CD.
WISH I had some treble controls or an EQ to really ZAP the RDO 194's.
Naw, just let em play! -
I'm bookmarking this thread right now. Just in case.

You could try to apply the silicone on the back side instead of the front, although it's pretty tight back there. I'm also not convinced that the silicone will stand up to the movement of the mid drivers.Political Correctness'.........defined

I was thinking the same thing. I might try some of the black stuff in a really thin amount on the front side and see what happens. If it can make it for awhile till other drivers pop up, then I guess it's not a total wash. Plus, they would have to be better sealed with a little silicone than being played with them "flapping in the wind".Richard? Who's your favorite Little Rascal? Alfalfa? One other thing I thought about from back in my days of car audio. Seems like I remember people (us, too) using clear fingernail polish for repairing some "punctured" surrounds from a stray screw gun or something just hitting the woofer. Plus, I remember this on a couple of home woofers, too. It's supposed to be flexible and pretty darn tough but I forgot if it worked or not. Seems like it did....Richard? They bore into your skin, itch like hell.'
We paint the skin with clear nail polish to suffocate and kill em.
Never tried it on speakers -
Trust me...we have chiggers over here, too! And, I've heard of people doing that for chiggers. I grew up in Arkansas roaming the woods, fields, etc with chiggers being an everyday kid thing. I can definitely relate!Richard? Who's your favorite Little Rascal? Alfalfa? Or is it........................Spanky?.................................Sinner.

Yeah, but is the clear polish really all that flexible? And what color clear fingernail polish should he use?

Nail polish will chip off, it's too hard.Political Correctness'.........defined

I have some of that stuff here. I think I'll just try the silicone and see what happens. At least it's a fix until some drivers come even though I may be waiting a long time on the "donut" drivers!Richard? Who's your favorite Little Rascal? Alfalfa?
