PSW111 Sub in cabinet?

Would this sub (PSW111) work OK in a cabinet?
I'm asking because it has a downward firing port and I'm not sure if that means that some of the sound won't come out of the front of the cabinet.
Another question would be how does a downward firing port work?
I'm looking at matching the RM10s with the PSW 111.
Thanks for your help!

As far as I know you would be fine. The downfiring port uses the floor to enforce bass response. You may get a little less overall from a front firing port, but the bass should be a little more accurate, especially in the frequencies that would have been exaggerated by the floor. Hope that helps

Great post from LBrize. Bass is predominately non-directional and the subwoofer will use the mounting surface to enforce bass response. I think you could view this as a grass roots version of the Polk Audio Power Port.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

In cabinet I would want to try out front firing woofer and port. You said the same place has cabinets and subs...listen out then set it in cabinet and re-audition maybe.
