Halo 3 single player only.... worth it?

Not interested in Halo multilayer. Don't like 11 year olds screaming in my ear. Will be happy with Warhawk / Call of Duty 4 / UT3 / Team Fortress 2 for multilayer. So, Halo 3 single player.... how good is it? Better be way better than Halo 2 to justify my time.

Ask Avelanchfan. He has played a good deal of the single player campaign. I personally like it a lot better than Halo2 so far, but I have only played a little.

Are you being serious or sarcastic? I wasn't too impressed with LP. GOW rocks, of course.

Single player is great, I'm playing on Heroic difficulty. My advice is to take your time and learn to use the different devices and weapons. My favorite weapon is definitely the hammer.

It is possible to just rush to the next checkpoint to advance the game, but that basically sucks the fun right out of it since you're not killing all the enemies.

I don't know how H3 multi is set up, but I've played GOW and GRAW2 multi with friends and it was a blast. Try hooking up with some older players. I believe there's a thread here somewhere with people's XBL account names.

Ive been a huge fan of the single player part of the game the entire time its been out.

I liked Halo 2 alot except for the last 3 levels.

I got Halo 3 last night, and so far I have played about a hour and 30 minutes on Normal - probally need to step it up. Not a huge challenge. However, my biggest adjustment is definitely the RB and X button change. Wow, and I still havnt figured out all of the uses totally for some things.

But yes, the hammer is definite awesome. As is the Gatlin(sp) gun.

Brutes are a better enemy than the Elite, especially since they are revamped. They are alot harder to kill this time out.

I also noticed they are smarter, much smarter --- they hide, call commands...

    Same goes for your allies.

So far I like it and the story seems to have picked up right where it left off.

So, so far I am a happy camper.

Does anyone know how to adjust the sensitivty of the campaign? I can't seem to find it in the menu, and its way way way to sensitive to accurately shoot anyone. You barely touch it and I go way way way past my target.

But yes, I like it much more than GOW simply because it has a story and i know the story and the characters. The Characters in GOW were just something to kill.

Ah well, I wish I had more time to play -- unfortunately I wont have to much.

I cant wait to do Multiplayer though. I played around with Forge a little bit and liked what I saw there.

The video feed of your campaign is sweet as hell. Screen shots. Totally sweet.

Yes! Stop playing on normal and start again on Heroic, you'll be caught up before you know it.

On the difficulty settings it even says after Heroic, "The way Halo was meant to be played".

Well I let me put it this way for Lanion....is Halo 3 enough to stand alone for the single player only....well the answer is a resounding NO! The game is to short....enough said. It's fun as hell, but I would be greatly disappointed if I spent 60 dollars for the single player game.

    2 Gripes about the game.......

1)Why do they not tell you to save the game? Or why does this game not auto save at certain checkpoints? And for that matter why do they not have a quick save feature? You have to "save and quit".

Last night I was playing, and I got done with the 6th mission...literally done, at the very end of the mission the little blue and silver floating thing started to talk to me out of a ship...so naturally I jumped in the ship...WRONG!! The ship takes off and promptly throws my body out of it in the middle of the ocean (when my body hits that invisible wall).

So now I have to start the WHOLE mission over again! while it was a fun mission I want to finish this game!!

    2) Speaking of missions.....why is it that when you play the missions online with a friend that you are not able to save your progress? LIKE WITH GOW?? So yesterday a friend wants to play some online missions...I oblige and I go through the first four with him. I had already had 1-3 done...so I was like "Cool now I dont have to do mission 4!"...WRONG again....you still have to do mission 4 on the single player. What a crock of **** this is.

IMHO Bungie really screwed this up, and basically it is making you play missions 3-4 times when you do not really even want to.

If you want to see something funny, do a custom game and bump weapon damage up to 300%, gravity at 50%. You can hammer a Warthog completely off of the map!

I got about 1/3rd of the way into Gears of War and lost interest, so it was a total waste of money for me. I didn't buy into the universe/lore so the multilayer was not very fun for me.

On the other hand, games like Max Payne, Shadow of the Colossus, Panzer Dragoon Orta, and God of War are not long, but they quality of those few hours is so top notch they are definitely worth $60 for me.

I love games. They are my main past time, but I only have about 5 hours a week to play games. If a game is awe inspiring/ moving / dramatic / truly memorable, and provides at least 4 mindblowing hours.... that is worth $60 to me.

So, does Halo 3 deliver that? Halo 2 did not.

Zelda provides a ton of hours, but not all are memorable. Resident Evil 4 provides about 25 awesome hours, so I might consider it the best single-player game ever in terms of value.

IMO, Halo 3 is doing a much better job than Halo 2.

Five hours a week? Ouch. I don't know if I could live like that. I'd start trading sleeping hours for game time.

Beat it tonight, it was kind of short. Then again, most games are now.

    It was kind of short...

But man the fighting was bad **** --- constant large battles, pretty tough enemies overall, very smart ones at that...

The last objective is absolutely exhilerating with the sound turned to about 110db...

What a fun game, absolutely amazing...

Great job to Bungie, much much better than Halo 2 and dare I say an edge better than Halo 1 as far as overall battles.

My favorite battle so far has been when you have your team of two Hornets and a couple Warthogs against those two giant Scarabs, multiple Ghosts and Banshees. There is so much action and shooting going on at once in a large scale that makes you feel like you're really part of an epic battle.

Since I purchased the game on its release date I had hardly touched campaign because I love the multiplayer experience. (and I am pretty decent at it too. :p) I played through a large chunk of Campaign with three of my friends today and I couldn't stop going on about the SCALE. The game is absolutely epic, from the battles, enemies, visuals, and the SOUND dear lord the sound is absolutely mind blowing. All the weapons sound fantastic, especially the grenades, the placement amongst the discrete channels is fantastic and I absolutely love the score, the music really lends to the game and makes my sub sing!

Overall an incredible game which I can not say enough good things about.

    Ditto

    Game is absolute KICK ****

If you turn up the last task on a Warthog you will blow your mind. Its intense stuff...

Will have to play it again soon, time is unfortunately limited around here.

The biggest thing I noticed was the simple fact there were no more SMALL battles. The only small battle was the "boss" battle -- which for god sakes, the entire game is a boss battle. If the boss was any harder we'd all be scratching our heads in bewilderment..

But definitely, everything is absolutely amazing.

I would love to play with 4 people on Legendary... thatd be awesome

I wish there were multiple save points. For instance, now that I'm done with the SP missions, I want to go back and relive the battle against the two scarabs. I've been playing MP and I'm now a Spartan.

That was a good battle. If you really want a super hornet, equip one of your jump seat riders with the laser beam weapon. I gave the laser away when I first got it 'cause it doesn't hold much ammo. And the guy followed me around to every new vehicle scenario. It was like having a sniper canon riding shotgun. Great fun...:D.

My only disappointment with this game was the difficulty. Even legendary wasn't that challenging, especially with the indestructable arbiter tagging along...

See... I'm going to have to disagree about the sound. The music is outstanding, but the placement in the discrete channels is awful. Listen to games like Rainbow Six: Vegas or the Call of Duty games (especially the CoD4 beta, which sounded PHENOMENAL) and the 5.1 is so good that you can hear people trying to sneak behind you in multiplayer. Halo 3, on the other hand, goes for more of an ambient in-the-battle soundfield that doesn't ever seem to be precisely placed in the surrounds.

I've tried straight 5.1 and 7.1 using DPL-IIx Movie and THX Game Mode... and while other games sound fantastic, I can't help but feel that Halo 3 is a big letdown on the audio side. The music is outstanding, the bass is solid, but they should have done some serious tweaking to the placement and level of sounds around you. And the wierdest part is that the audio in the cutscenes is actually really good. Perhaps it is just the audio engine they're using, but consider me underwhelmed.

One thing I like, that I've noticed about the game is there are multiple ways to do things, you can make it as easy or as hard as you want.

For instance, you can finish the twin scarab battle quickly by landing the hornet on the deck of the scarab then run like heck to the core and blow it up, repeat. Or, you can make it a 40 minute battle, destroying every part of the scarabs so they are just smoldering wrecks that can barely move, then finish them off.

Same goes for how you take down other vehicles, precision shot to the driver or blast away, or jump on (switches to 3rd person)and plant grenade.

You can kill every enemy or just try to sneak your way to each checkpoint.
