I have a end of summer party I'm going to tonight... and the host loves Vodka..
so what would be a really good Vodka that I should buy for him? must be reasonably priced... no $200 bottles of alcohol.
please give me some brands... he likes mixed drinks.. not to drink it straight up.

If you can find it get a bottle of Pearl. Tasty stuff.Make it Funky!
-
If he mixes the vodka, what difference does it make? Get the cheapest bottle you can find. If you want to go fancy, pour the cheap stuff in a grey goose bottle.:p
Anyway, you can't go wrong with Grey Goose. -
Grey Goose
Stolichnaya

Another vote for Grey Goose and Ketel One. I would have to add Chopin.
Booze is like audio....crap in crap out. Don't mix wih crap, if he/she knows vodka, they will taste the diff. I Know I can. I can't tell you what brand it is but can tell if it's crap or not. -
Danger, Grey Goose is ridiculously overrated. It's kind of like Bose. Everyone tells you it's great, so it must be great, right?
Nope, it's just a more expensive version of Absolut. A fine Vodka to be sure, but nowhere near the upper echelon. If you want to impress your host, show up with a bottle of Chopin. Trust me. -

Grey Goose and Absolut taste nothing alike. Not saying one is better than the other but they definetly taste different. I don't care for Absolut, it tastes slighty bitter and grainy to me in a Martini. Grey Goose is very smooth.
Again, IMO. To say Grey Goose is like Bose and tastes like Absolut is ridiculous.

I agree. There is no comparison between the two. Absolut is gritty and tastes like rubbing alcohol.Receiver: harmankardon AVR235

Sorry, but Grey Goose was merely marketed very well during the Martini craze in this country and everyone bought into the hype, just like Bose. I hear so many people say how great it is, yet they never had it, or don't know what great vodka is.
Any respectable bartender will recommend Chopin over Grey Goose if you're going to start laying some serious coin down on Vodka. I didn't say Grey Goose sucked, I said it isn't worth the price tag and it's on the same level as Absolut, which, IMO, it is. -
Interesting, here's a good article from Slate.
http://slate.com/id/2106004/
They have Chopin as the number one and Grey Goose just a slight step above Asbsolut. -
Yeah, well as anything else I can find articles supporting my POV too. Neither article means anything. I prefer Grey Goose with Stolichnaya a close second and Belvidere and Chopin and Ciroc rounding out my top 5.

Around here most drinking establishments charge the same for:
Grey Goose
Stoli's
Chopin
Belvidere
Absolut
on the rocks or straight up. Some higher end restaurants may add a surcharge to premium Vodaka but *around* here it's rare.
Skye
Smirnoff
tends to be anywhere from 0.50c - $1 less than the above
rail Vodka tends to be 0.50c -$1 less than Skye or Smirnoff or Gordons.
Most Bloody Mary's (especially on football Sunday's) add a surcharge for premuim Vodka.

I went with Ketel One, so there.
i like what it said on the bottle... "handcrafted in small batches, using traditional recipes at the Nolet Distillery in Holland - founded 1691
I've not had this before. so i'll be a real treat.. as i'm a vodka drinker too.. just never tried this one.
thanks for the suggestions everyone. now drink up!!PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Just get something distilled at least 4 times, I like Stoli's myself.
The more distilled, the less impurities, the lesser chance of a hangover.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service. -
I like Svedka. It's cheap (relatively), distilled 5 times and my more serious vodka drinking friends prefer it to Grey Goose. I also like Skye better that Stoli, Absolut, o rKetel One and it's American made.

Grey Goose straight out of my freezer, right from the bottle and into my mouth.
No glass needed here. -
I knowthis is a vodka thread , but I have come to be quite fond of Tanqueray #10 MMMM !
Nother decent vodka is Level.
I wouldn't say GG is like Bose. It's much better then Absocrap. But Ketel and Chopin are my favs. The only time we use absocrap is when we travel o sterilize our toothbrushes. -
The vodka is easy, show up with a jar of Tomolives and you'll be remembered. Olives are for losers.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

well the Ketel One was a hit.. as I found out it's the host's favorite vodka. score points for Danger Boy.

good job ! What did you think of it ? -
dam, im to late but my 2 cents is Ciroc. By far the best Vodka ive tasted. Its made from grapes, distilled 5 times and is different from any other Vodka you will taste. Its a little pricey at $32 a fifth but it is well worth it at least once. Mix it with a little tonic and wow is all i can say.

Late to this party but my "normal" brand is Ketel One however my personal favorite is Vox, (particularly if kept in freezer). Cool bottle also.
I also agree with the over hype of Grey Goose. Personally I think its a boring vodka with little to no character.
