Hello everyone, Im new to the Polk family and fairly new Home theater set up. I'm not sure what's the best way to connect my new system. I keep reading different things on what is the correct way to connect a sub. Im going nuts trying to figure out whats my best options to get the best sound.

I hope you guys can help. I have RTi10s for my mains and I have a PSW505 for my sub. Now I really have no idea on which way to connect the sub. Should I connect it directly to the reciever or should I hook up the mains to it. I have a Onkyo TX-SR805 not sure if that matters. Well thanks for any advice you give..

    Hi and welcome.
Option 1 (simpler option, I use it)
set the AVR with the SW on.
set the 10s as small in the AVR.
Connect the LFE in jack on the sub, to the LFE out jack of the AVR, using a coax sub wire.
no need to touch the low pass filter settings, as the LFE input is unfiltered.

Option 2 (AKA the polk way, requires more tweaking)
set the AVR with the SW off.
set the 10s as large in the AVR.
connect a y splitter to the Left and Right preout jacks on the AVR (mains), and connect the other end to one of the filtered inputs (left or right) on the sub (you can also use a y splitter here).
tweak the sub's filter (xover) to whatever sounds best. its a little tricky as you should aim for a "blending" sound.

    Good Luck...
