Is Stereophile worth $10 a year or $18 for 2 years? I can tell you Playboy has been worth the $17 a year for sure!!! :p

I paid $7.99 for two years on ebay.
Personally, I think I overpaid, it will not be renewed.

Wes I like and look forward to it each month. I don't remember what I paid but $18 for two years doesn't sound like a stretch. Just the "Analog Corner" alone keeps me wanting more even though they many times review stuff that my millionare cousin could barely afford. I like the features they do on manufacturers. They, not long ago, did one on Bea and Luke Manley of VTL which I thoroughly enjoyed. As a matter of fact I considered that article and a Stereophile review among other things before I purchased my VTL TL 5.5.

The 'guys' are getting old, and so are their ears. It's still a fun read though, and I like looking at the ads. It's like the Mad Magazine for the audio world, I keep trying to fold the back page with no success (yet).

Seriously, it has its moments, as does just about anything. I won't be cancelling my subscription anytime soon. I think I paid $22 for two years on a CES special. It wouldn't have mattered if it was $220 - the hots in the Stereophile room at Alexis Park convinced me without saying a word.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Agree, it's a cheap read so why not?

I prefer TAS. HiFi + is my fave but at ~10 bucks an issue, it's pricey.

If you're filling out a postcard, mark on it "Bill Me Later" and include your email address. They sent me a an email offering an additional discount if I pay online with a credit card.

    Don't remember what I paid.

I picked up Stereophile because of the hot chicks at CES otherwise it's pretty forgetable. TAS is also starting to get a little obtuse but most magazines are the same eventually. My favorites are Audio Xpress, Residential Systems and Paste, the best music magazine ever.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I ripped the $10 Stereophile card up yesterday. It's over. 1989 to the present is enough.

I too prefer TAS. I go back and forth with Stereophile, but they drive me crazy. They have a history of reviewing only ultra expensive gear. When they took a lot of flak for that, they switched to the ultra-cheap gear. They somehow refuse to review mid-fi stuff, which I find the majority of stereophile enjoys.

I think they also go too far into the technical specs. While the info is good, how many people really gain from a dozen graphs and charts? It is moot if it does not sound good, or costs more than your house.

That 17 bucks would turn into many tens of thousands for me in lawyers fees and what would be the divorce settlement.

I have no illusions that my wife wouldn't take the system from me in the divorce settlement out of spite. I'm pretty sure all I'd get is my bag of soccer balls, my work clothes (have to work to pay alimony), and my salmon and steelhead rods, which are usless now that I live in Az.

Mark, I like Residential Systems as well.

Troy, Hi Fi+ is prob my favorite too, but I can't do $120 a year just for a magazine.

I subscribe to Stereophile and Playboy myself. Good "throne" material. The company I work for also sends me about 10+ of the trade magazines every month like Residential Systems, Twice, etc, etc. I usually thumb thru them and toss them on their way. I'm just glad I don't have to pay for them!
