ok, so i sold my 42'' pioneer pdp-42A3HD for a grand, to to one of my friend's families. right away, (that same day as a matter of fact)i registered for some classes at my college with the money. then, a couple months down the road i start hearing that they now have wierd rectangles that change colours onscreen and different oddities like that. what the $*#%? i never had any issue with that tv for the year and eight months that i had owned it! what could be wrong with it?
what should i do or say to them?

are they now looking to you to fix it for them or pay to have it fixed? TV's don't just go wacky on their own.. for no good reason unless they are lemon's or usually very old.

Be nice and show concern that their TV is now acting strangely, but they should pay to have someone come take a look at it. that's all you need to do. it's now in their possession for several months. it's not much different than if they had bought it used or demo model at a store.

I assume you didn't say "hey if you have any problems with it.. let me know and i'll have it fixed". then it's their problem to get it fixed.

check the Pioneer website or do a google search for that make and model. it could be a lemon.

Used gear doesn't come with a warranty. That's the chance they take and have no right putting it on you.

Once they get it and determine it to work properly the sale is complete. They take on all maintainence and repair responsibility once the sale is complete unless you offered something extra.

If they're seeing weird rectangles and such, sounds to me that they have a low resolution source and are expecting that source to look like hi-def or of DVD quality. Did you determine the source(s) they have connected to the TV? If it is what I mentioned, explain the GIGO (garbage in, garbage out) phenomena and that should put their minds at ease.

Since the problem just cropped up after two months I would say you are in the clear. It isn't like you gave them a warranty with there purchase. If they wanted that they should have gone to bestbuy.

If you want to take a look at the way they have it setup to check it out, that would be all I would do at the most.

Since it just started happening? Do they have the TV facing a window? It could be the seasonal change is causing light to hit it and that is the problem. I ask because it happened to me. I would get strange swirls of color but it was a reflection I hadn't noticed before. Moved TV problem solved.

he's the drummer in my death metal band. or was. still ok friends, just his folks wanted it so i hadda let it go to pay for classes. but still, the GIGO clause is probable...they didn't have high def of any kind going in, save an xbox360 last i checked...dvd/vcr combo unit..standard cable..but i still i don't see it as my issue.

Don't pay for anything. They've had it for more than a week. Not your problem. For all you know, they could have dropped it or spilled a beverage on it.

    Amen to that.

I'd like to add to that: ...don't sell to family.
Do you hear that buzzing noise?
