Hi all,

I currently am running Polk M20's, M10's and a CSi25 for my front, rear, and center off an Onkyo 503. I have a Velodyne 10 inch sub for my bass. I am looking into adding two more speakers to complete the 7.1 setup. What would be my best option for matching sound quality or timbre or whatever I'm supposed to match with my current setup? Would I want to step up my fronts to R50's and move the M20's to my sides? Any ideas?

Thanks for any suggestions.:D
AVR- Onkyo TX-SR503
Center- Polk CSi25
Fronts- Polk RTi8's
Surround Sides- Polk M10's
Surround Rears- Polk M20's
Sub- Velodyne VRP-1000

I'd match the surrounds with the backs. Same speaker provides perfect integration.

Would upgrading my fronts to Rti8's drown out my CSi25? Could I live with it tempararily until I upgrade the center to match the Rti8's? The Rti8's are on sale at Fry's and I figure I might as well upgrade to them now in hopes of upgrading the center later on. I'm trying to complete my 7.1 system with as much ease as possible. Thanks again.

I haven't heard a 7.1 system yet but is there much difference coming from a 5.1 system?

From what I have heard, most audio tracks aren't in 7.1 format yet, but the receivers are able to convert it for 7.1 sound somehow. Correct me if the information I have heard is incorrect. :)

You are correct. The 7.1 receivers and pre/pros can take a 5.1 signal and split it into two more channels. A lot of folk on this forum believe that a good 5.1 set-up is better than a poor 7.1 set-up, which is true. However, I think that a good to decent 7.1 really has some merit. What I enjoyed about my 7.1 was the extra two sound sources. It really makes the movie surround you. (Get it... that's why they call it surround sound... ok bad joke)

I would suppose it might add extra sound for music as well? Extra speakers would result in extra sound I would imagine? Especially in all speaker channel modes?

Take the extra 2.0 and setup a dedicated music rig in another room. ;)

I am in the process of integrating my LSi25s into my existing 5.1 system and wondered where the two other pair of speakers should go. Right now I have a pair of RM7300s (the larger ones) and a pair of RM 6901s (smaller ones) to work with ... My LSis will go in the front and wondered where the better of the pair of RMs should go .... i.e. is the surrounds left / right used more or are the surrounds backs used more?

    Thanks.
