terrance blanchard, damm I cannot remember the name of the SACD I have, but he does some instrumental along with vocals by Casandra Williams, Jane Monheint, Diana Crawl and so on.

Wynton Marrsieles (sp) is another one I enjoy.

heck I have a bunch, let me look when I get home, I just play em I really never read the jewel cases or album covers. Oh yea, I know Amanda McBroom, now she is to die for, what a voice, great music, great recording, this woman has perfect pitch.

Of course we were really poor when I was young so I never could expect a whole album of songs in my youth, had to live on 45's that were hand me down's from my piano teacher or scratched throw aways, now Shack knows all about albums, he comes from money......so he wins that album cover game we have all the time. really unfair......but I bet he could not identify the buckinghams 45 record Kind of Drag by sight......well, at least not without the title staring him in the face.....

Try Rose Smith - Dawnraiding. Down-tempo'ish, and one of my favorite albums. Also, I liked the next Zero 7 album better than simple things, The Garden.

I use it as background, ambient music while I'm coding at work. Then on the drive home, Tool comes out. :)

I like "The Garden" equally to "Simple Things".
"When It Falls" although weakest of the three, still has an undeniable Zero 7 sound.
Blue States "Man Mountain" "Nothing Changes Under The Sun"(any you can find really)
    Air "Talkie Walkie"
Hooverphonic "Magnificent Tree" "Blue Wonder Power Milk"
    Goldfrapp "Felt Mountain"
    Royksopp "Melody AM" "The Understanding"
    Mandalay "Solace"
Emiliana Torrini "Love in the Time of Science"

If you like the female vocals on Z7 check out Sia "Colour the Small One"

all available and recorded decently...all great straight through listens...all flavoured like Zero 7.

    Sona,

You know I think a Polk Xrt XM radio would be perfect for you, you can listen to many many artists who get little play time on traditional stations. Costs are about equal to one CD a month, not bad.

    Just a thought.

Was I wrong about the Fisher equipment? (Or maybe Fischer?)

    Sona

You did the right thing by walking past that Fisher junk. They had some decent tube stuff back in the '60's. Their mass market product in the '80's isn't worth burning.

    Sona,

Agree with Carl, I am not a Fisher officianado, as stated during the 80's Fisher, Kenwood, JVC went on the decline, there are some silver faced JVC units that have a following, but I have personally moved on.

Sattelite radio direct from XM beats the tail off the TV, the Polk XM tuner is a quality piece with a nice DAC, the sound is between mp3 and CD quality, although these kind of statements are getting more fuzzy, dependent upon whose CD or mp3, it's never going to be my reference material for those smoking jacket listening sessions I do, but for exposure to new artists and material the sound is certainly well beyond doable for me.

The Polk I-Sonic can also do XM and it has a traditional tuner that can receive HD radio as well as having its own DVD/CD player, alarms and so on. Costs more than Xrt tuner.

So you would have the cost of the unit
The ever present "activation fee" for the sattelite I think it's 35.00
and the 12.95 fee per month for the xm radio

I know nothing of sirius, mostly because Polk does not get sirius......

The XM has many educational programs, concerts and so on, for someone into music it can become the center of their rig. I would check out the website if nothing else. Other companies make do-dads that go from the rack to the car and back again, I do not own any of these but mention they do at least exist.

    Sona,

waaa......funny, of course the random thinking is up my alley, ok, well, DJ's, hell, I could not say, I listen to watercolors, bluesville, rock, its about the music for me, that said the vast majority of my listening is done with the SACD and the Vinyl. I am an old guy so I like old stuff, can you dig it???

I thought XM or the other would be a fit for your need. I can tell you that my Polk Tuner sounds much nicer than the feed I get from Direct TV, however, its the same music and YMMV.

I'd recommend Kaya Project "Elixir" and "Walking Through." The discs may be hard to find (I think I got mine from Canada), but nearly every track is a winner.

I'd also recommend Art Bleek's hard-to-find "Between Yesterday and Tomorrow." There are a couple of stinkers on this disc but the rest of it is so good that I forgive him. BTW, the recording quality on this disc is simply outstanding.

I discovered most of my "chill out" music on XM radio channel 84, "XM Chill." I'd highly recommend it 'cause you'll likely never hear these artists elsewhere.

Thought I was one of the only ones, I'm going to put some on right now.

    Which CD's you have?

Another Deleruim listener here. I didn't include it in my above post because it's not exactly "chill."

Karma and Semantic Spaces are the best.

BTW, try Conjure One, the self-titled disc. If you like the above two by Delerium, you'll love this too.

I have Karma and Poem right now. I will add Semantic Spaces and Conjure One to my list, thanks.

Really like both of the ones I have now, I'm sure I will like the other two.

What's funny is as I'm reading this post this morning, what do I have in the rig playing? Delerium. :D

I've got many Delerium albums somewhere around here. My wife has a habit of "misplacing them" until I find them in "her" car or CDP. I've got two that I can find right now, out of about six or seven which includes The Best of and Odyssey. I must have twelve or so versions of the song/mix Silence and I tend to prefer the earlier versions. They are a little more chill to me and not so upbeat and fast. I lost the cover/jewel case to my favorite and the print on the CD is pure graphic, so I can't even tell you what my favorite one is. DOH! It's one that was out 7 or 8 years ago. I can tell you that.

    RT1

    Right on.

I have never met a woman that didn't dig Amanda. Her recordings were done with audiophile techniques, direct mic to cutting the lp record with no other processing. She writes most of her lyrics, like the The Rose. Is funny and doesn't take herself seriously. And finally she can record a song with a dynamic range that will give you the goose bumps.

For all you fans of Amanda she wrote many of the songs on the failed TV show Cop Rock. I have all the Cop Rock shows on tape and you can easily tell which ones she wrote. I told her to make a CD of those songs.
