i have the polk db521 and the db691's hooked up in my car to a pioneer deh-p6900ub head unit. they sound great apart from i have noticed on one song called hellyeah by hellyeah there is a crackling noise coming from just the left speakers, its just part of the song it happens. other then that they sound ok. are my speakers blown or is there something i can do to stop this.

Thanks

Simon

Does it do it with the volume low? If so chances are that particular point in the song is a heavy bass or midrange note and its driving the amp pretty hard and into its audible distortion range.

If not, take the CD in the house and listen to it on your home stereo and see if it does the same thing.

if it's on an ipod or something like that it's probably the song itself.

Your radio has a built in crossover feature. You are able to filter out bass frequencys from your 5.25's and 6x9's. I do not know if this is independently. What I mean I do not know if you can remove the low frequencys from the 5.25" speakers and the 6x9" speakers seperately. The crossover might affect both sets of speakers the same but I would look into it. If it is possible you might want to crossover the 5.25's at 100hz to 120hz and see if this helps. If the 6x9's are you only bass speakers you really do not want to use the crossover on them. Check your owners manual and see what it allows you to do.
