SDA 1.2tl resistors and hot glue

I am about to take the plunge and upgrade the crossovers in my 1.2tls. Sonic Craft sells both 12W and 5W. Which are proper?

Also, how does one get the hot glue off the components? Knife? Screwdriver? Fingernails?

    I used the 5W versions when I did my 1C's but I got the 12W versions for the SRS 2 crossovers. I'm really not sure why I got the smaller ones the first round. Brain cloud maybe. I'd go with the 12W versions.

    I used a right angle pick tool and it helped to make the stuff let go. It pretty much peeled right up after that. But, I really didn't have that much on the crossovers, though. You could try putting a "little" heat on it too from either a hair dryer or the low setting of a heat gun. Just be careful with the heat gun!

    My "crazy" Horn/SET friends swear by Caddock resistors.
    They consider them easily the sonic equal of Vishay and Roderstein at lower cost.

    Maybe you will get lucky, and they will have your value ?

    Then YOU will probably be the ONLY one with Caddock Resistors in YOUR speakers on THIS forum.
    MAY not get you "respect" here, but on some other forums it will, LOL

    Also, check Digi Key out, they have good parts at great prices.

    They carry Caddock, an American Resistor, BTW.

    I don't think it will really make a difference. Folks here have used both with good success. Someone might say the 5W is better or the 12W is better. But I don't think it will make a sonic difference. I've used the 5W in three sets of SDA crossovers that I upgraded with Sonicaps and Mills resistors. The upgrade is highly recommended. Good luck!

    Oh yeah! The nasty hot glue! Slice through it wherever you can. I used a pair of needlenose pliers to pull it loose or off. Be carefull to separate the glue from the crossover board and/or components from the coils. The glue sometimes coats the small gauge wire onto the circuit board. You need to slice through the glue and be sure not to cut the wire on the coils. Use a small screwdriver to pry underneath the glue puddles to be sure that the coil wires stay intact. Sometimes you have to work them a little bit before you can pull the glue loose. Of course remove the glue before desoldering the capacitors and resistors.

    Use an Exacto knife to make slits then just pull the old glue off. . . DO NOT put hot glue on the newly installed resistors, too much heat build up. It okay to glue the caps and coils.

    Thank you everyone. I pulled the crossovers this weekend and it looks doable. I'll go with the 12W reistors.

    I'll practice soldering and desoldering on an dead CD player. I'm glad I didn't throw it out!
