Thoughts on SVS speakers?

Hi,

I'm well aware that SVS subs are wonderful, but how about their speakers?

Looking for opinions on SVS speakers (particularly the bookshelf speakers) for my dorm room setup. Also would like to pair that with a PB12+ or 25-31PC+ sub.

I've heard them. They are pretty impressive for the price. I'm not comfortable saying much more than that. I've only heard them once. That was with them being pushed by a 3803 Denon receiver and playing a variety of sound highlights from my collection of DVDs.

Had I spent some time listening to music on them I would elaborate, but I haven't. Nonetheless, for the price of a pair its a pretty impressive speaker.

I've heard them a couple of times and echoing what Shizelb said, they are fairly impressive. As a set they work extremely well for HT and are good, not great, for music. Listening to them compared to Ascend 170SEs, they were somewhat overmatched, but have a very similar FR and signature. Compared to RTi4s, they sound more laid back up top, but perhaps not as warm in the mids. I'm not saying they are as good either, just different.

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
    PB13Ultra RO
    BW Silvers
    Oppo BDP-83SE

So are you saying the RTi4s are brighter while the SVS are more neutral?

And how well will these speakers sound in a small dorm room?

Yes...the tweeter is more accurate and controlled without the RTi sssssizzle and the midrange is more neutral. For a dorm room they'd be excellent. Are you thinking of a pair or the whole setup? The SCS-01s in the bookshelf config are quite a bit better...something to consider anyway.

Don't know yet, I might go for a pair or the whole setup. Or I might just bring my Definitive Tech BP10B instead.

Looks like these speakers have a great bang for the buck value.

Also would the 25-31PC+ or PB12+ be a good match for the SBS-01 speakers?

Leaning towards the 25-31PC+. It should be enough for my dorm room.

    You think so?

I'm just thankful that I don't live next to you in the dorms.

Actually, I never listen to anything loud. Just doesn't sound as good as at low volumes, IMO. Most of the time, my music is similar to the background music levels you find in a shopping mall/department store/restaurant, etc.

Since most of my listening is done at 50-60db, I doubt anyone can hear it outside my dorm room. Besides my music is on VERY low when I'm studying.

Forgot to add, I usually don't listen to 2-channel with a subwoofer. The sub is for movies.
