Uh Oh, Did I Screw Up my SRS 2's ?

My SRS 2's had a frozen dimensional driver, a 6510.
The guys here saw some Polk 6510's on Ebay.
I won them, and they arrrived today.
They look different, and have no where near the excursion of my stock 6510's.
Even have a different dustcap!
They say MM 6510 on the back.
WTF are these drivers, and if the are wrong, WHY would Polk use so close a model designation to the original 6510 ?

The "MM" series is the mobile audio series of their speakers. The "MW" series are for home use. That's pretty much how they've always done it.
You can especially tell in that auction you won because the guy is talking about his Alpine, Clarion and Oz Audio (car stereo) stuff also for sale.

Someone on the forum pointed me to that auction, and I thought they were the right ones.
That really screwed me up because there were several other lots of 4 REAL 6510's for bid at the time.
Now, they are gone.
I missed out needlessly.
Anyone have ONE 6510 for sale ? -

2) I think it as Las with the link, but his intentions were good, and **** happens.
3) I know it's a hassle but you should be able to flip them, no problem!
4) We are talking about MM6510's, right?
5) Lately lots of vintage Polk speaker parts ahve been avail on e-bay. So be patient or order some from Polk.

Yes, they are MM 6510's, mint too, actually brand new, at least they look it.

I missed it myself. I looked at the auction and almost bid myself on one of the sets.
They looked so similar I never caught on.

I will keep looking for a 6510, but meanwhile the SRS 2's ain't all bad, even in stereo.
Let me share my experience with subwoofers with you.
I think remote controlled subwoofers are a MUST.
Once you get the amount of bass right, almost everything sounds pretty good.
The Parasound P/SP 1000 preamp has a nifty little feature that makes it almost indespensible for me, the ability to control the subwoofer output level right from the remote.
I run it;s subwoofer output into a Rane electronic crossover, 24db per octave.
Though the preamp has a built in ctossover, it;s slopes are not steep enough to really LEAN into the twin 9.5 cu ft corner mounted subs.
With the Rane Crossover, I can set the subs so they REALLY HIT, and hit they do.
Many recordings I listen to INTENTIONALLY have the bass level resuced.
This is so those listening on portable or car radios can crank them w/o distortion.
That the song by Scandal "The Warrior", it is bright as hell.
BUT, once you add bass by simply upping the subs level, it sounds like Patty Smythe is there with you.
Same with some old STYX and REO stuff.
Yes, my tube preamp sounds and images a little better then the Parasound P/SP 1000, but the ability to remotely control bass level on the subs is one I will NEVER be w/o again.
Level is especially critical when running big **** subs like I am.
They are flat down to 35hz, but remember they are in a corner.
Thus, the corner room gain flattens em below 20 since they are sealed vs ported, and have a slower roll off.
On some recordings,the engineer was not paying attention to the low bass level, and I can sometimes hear it.
It is nice to just reduce level, or increase it from your chair:)
