dipole-bipole question

what side of the speaker shoule sound come out from. i dont really hear a difference from either selection. i really only hear sound from the outter side of the speaker. is this correct?

It is the type of soundfield that is changed. Bipole is more directional (easier to ID where the sound is coming from as both tweeters are wired the same) Dipole is more diffuse (tweeters are wired out of phase to cancel some of the directional output). The sound is always directed toward the listener, one just sounds more direct in its presentation.

Depending on the source, the effect can range from subtle to drastic.

thanks for providing me with that information.

so should be hearing sound come from the inner speaker. if i dont (is it that subtle) did i hook up something wrong. the inner side of the lsi fx is right next to my ear when listening. i originally thought it might get too loud. but i dont hear any sound coming out the inside speaker at all. same with the other side.

If no sound is coming from a certain side, then you may have something wrong.Speaker posts, switches, wiring, drivers, & crossovers can all develop issues in shipping and use.

what side should be pointing towards the television? (as per the fxi3's) the one with the woofer, or should that one be pointing backward?

oh are both sides not created equal. i have the same issue with both. should equal sound be coming out of both sides?

On the FXi3 model the woofer should point toward the rear of your room if mounted on side walls and pointed toward each other if mounted on the rear wall.

If you have the LSi FX model that Margate21 has, both sides contain a woofer and tweeter set.

so r u saying equal sound effects should be coming out of both sides of the speaker?

I would think in Bipole mode, they should be close to the same.

But the back of the speaker says 'left' and 'right', and if you mount them that way with the text upright, the woofer(big thing, correct?) will be pointing towards the front of the room. That's how mine work.

On a side note-- I've tried what works best for my room in many different ways and I don't like the way the speakers sound when they are creating a null area. Not every listener will be in the null area and it will sound different for each person. If I want to have a 'fuller' sound for my room that spreads the side sound from each speaker, would it be better to just set the speaker to bipole? Also-- the speakers are 5 feet from the listening position, about a foot behind, and a foot above me.

There is more sound coming from the outside speaker to envelope the listening area.

thanks for that info.

do u have these speakers. when u put your ear to the inner speaker can u hear anything at all ??? do u think these speakers require just as much power as the fronts, should i hook them up to the amp. what about the 16 gauge wire (i live in the apt and was trying to hide the wire as much as possible.

Margate-- I know what you mean about the sound when you put your ear up to it. It doesn't sound like anything is coming except from just below the dynamic thing.

thanks so much... would love to know what u hear. remember i hear the outside speaker perfectly but nada fromt he inside. it is just too coincidental that both speakers are like that.

just got off the phone from polk tech support. they say this is correct. i will only get bass from the inner part of the speaker. so tonight i am going to take the grills off and see if that woofer is moving when it should. fyi..
