My 5's have the Oak veneer. I bought them at a yard sale for $25. They are a "late model" 5.
Sound great, looks like ****. These will be my first veneer project.Kitchen: NAD 7220PE, Polk Mini-Monitor
Home Office:Bottlehead S.E.X, Fostex FE127E in custom enclosures, Grado SR80
Polks: 7B, Mini Monitor
Mancave: Yamaha B-2, C-2a, CD-2, T-1, Bottlehead FP3, Thorens TD165c
Project:KLH 17 Rebuild

The ones on CL are Monitor 5 series II you can tell by the oak veneer and the fact that it has the sl2500 tweeter. Those were the last generation of the classic Monitor line, and $75 w/stands is a great deal.
You can also tell because the "POLK" emblem is in the center of the grill on the bottom. Early 5's had a silver emblem in the lower right corner (when facing the speaker), later models with the sl2000 and no fuse had a gold emblem in the lower right. Series II monitors have the gold ID tag on the back. Just some things to look for when trying to determine which iteration of Monitors you are considering.

Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it.
