Darn White Stuff

Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later, but preferably later. Little white stuff fell from the sky this morning. Not enough to show, just enough to say "Hey, get ready because I'm coming."

Dang!
My team of U17 girls played a soccer game this afternoon, and it was probably over 100 at kickoff. I had to pull 2 girls out because of heat exaustion.
We could use about 20 degrees of that next Saturday. My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself. -

Ya, that is a little further north and west of me. Hair, I used to have more but then I joined Club Polk.
As for the video, there are more clips there than I thought. Almost the entire left side of the home page has categories to select from.Michael

REGARDS SNOWWell, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all -
Hey Janmike, I lived in Yellowknife for about three years. Before that Pine Point, which I understand doesn't even exist anymore. I forgot how early the snow comes.

Yes Pine Point is dead, but a mining company from the USA is opening that area up again and is in the final stages of constructing the mine. What did you do in Yellowknife James?Michael

I think I was about 7 when I moved, so I didn't do much. It was about 20 years ago that I lived there. But my dad worked for Cominco, a mining company. Perhaps it's Cominco that's going back to Pine Point? I think they're called Tek/Cominco now.
-
No, it's Tamerlane out of Washington. I do not believe that Teck Cominco Limited has any activity in the NWT, probably BC though.
Where are you located now?Michael

I'm in Minneapolis. Between Yellowknife and now I lived in Anchorage, AK for about 10 years, so I'm almost as used to the cold as you are!

Great videos! Thanks for the links Mike. I've never seen the Northern lights. I'll bet they are awesome in person. Do the lights appear higher in the horizon the farther North you are located?Carl
-
I have seen the Aurora in the south and in Iceland, but not like here. They are indigenous to the Northern Hemisphere and seem to be much more colorful (red, blue green) and vibrant in the North. It is difficult to explain them to people that have never experienced them as at times they almost become memorizing with their movement. Somewhat like the 70’s, but only real if you get my drift.Michael

This thread really makes me want to take a trip to Yellowknife. If only a decent job was easier to find up there I'd be moving in a heartbeat! I've wanted to see any kind of aurora borealis since I was very young...
-
And what would you consider to be a decent job? There is literally zero unemployment here for the people want to work. I do not know ANYONE without a job.Michael

My understanding was that, as with any small town, you're pretty much restricted to the usual town trade (such as mining for Yellowknife?). Aside from driving trucks or working in trades is there much opportunity and availability to land a job elsewhere? Now that I think about it, it's probably more like northern Alberta where if you want to work, there is work for you! I'll have to pick your brain about it at polkfest because I would love to move up there for a while

Michael, PM or e-mail me what you do, education, etc. and I will keep my eyes open. Lots of opportunities and yes we can discuss at PF.Michael
